Why the hate for Devin Haney?

Everyone knew Haney was going to win. Most did. But the problem people have is that Haney has a tremendous amount of hype. But it's clear that for someone touted as a skilled defensive fighter, his defense is terrible. Had he not fought another pillow fisted boxer, he would have been finished. And speaking of pillow fisted, Haney can't punch. He's supposed to be able to at least be putting people away at lightweight considering he rehydrates to 160 plus pounds. He can't put away a little guy in there. He's going to take an L soon unless he's carefully matched.

As I said, a solid inside fighter will beat Haney. As will a fast southpaw. The left from JoJo landed on the chin damn near every time he bothered to throw it.

I saw people posting that JoJo Diaz would win. Just go back and look at some previous threads. It’s not like Diaz was seen as a tune-up.

The odds were posted on the Pick 'Em thread. Haney was so much of a favorite that anyone who picked JoJo got a free multiplier to double their points if JoJo won.

What are you talking about? Haney got himself in position to be Lomachenko's WBC mandatory but then Lomachenko asked for Franchise Champion status and dropped the belt so that the mando could never be called.

If anything Lomachenko's team ran away from Haney.

Nobody in the US has heard of Matchroom, Haney or DAZN. Outside of internet forums, all three are irrelevant in this country.

Incorrect. Plenty have heard of DAZN simply because Canelo has had several fights on there.

He just passed a legit test against JoJo Diaz and a lot of people thought Haney would lose.

Everyone claims that his belt is fake when it’s the “Franchise” designation that’s actually fake. It was literally created out of thin air so Lomachenko wouldn’t have to face Devin Haney.

That’s why Haney was elevated from interim champion to full champion by the WBC.

Then I hear people say that no one is interested in fighting Devin Haney, even guys like Ryan Garcia who have never won a world title.

Last but not least, I see people giving the other top guys a pass by saying that Tank,Teo, etc would destroy Haney anyway, yet none of those guys seem to share your confidence.

Loma has never been beaten. Salido got a gift, Teo got a gift. Loma will win a 12-0 shutout matrix style.

If Haney-Kambosos gets made and Haney wins, my feeling says he will duck Loma.

Basically Haney is going to highjack the division for another 2 years like Teo did.

That just tell you the guy is really good. It's a natural human being behavior to hate or discredit people who are doing well. Have you seen a lot of hate or discredit in failed people?

IMHO , for the amount of sheeit he talks he should be sparking dudes out in dramatic fashion instead he is in a quite a few snooze fests . That segment of him talking about Instagram pictures was cringe AF .

He is the WBC email champion, for starters.

He beat no one to earn a shot at Lomachenko in the first place. Lopez won the shot by beating Nakatani and IBF champion Richard Commey. I am not entirely sure how did Haney become the #1 contender for the WBC title, but good on Lomachenko for fighting the better fighter.

Lomachenko had to drop his WBC title just to make the better fight happen vs the more proven fighter, with better wins, Teofimo Lopez.

Haney has still beaten no one of note. Gamboa and Linares were put in there so that Haney can win by KO, and raise his profile. He failed at this, and actually was hurt himself vs Linares. And reacted by blatantly and illegally hugging Linares for 2 rounds.

That is not true. Haney was the comfortable favorite. Fans/media, for the most part, picked Haney to win. If anything, fans were surprised that the weak punching Diaz did as well as he did.

Lastly, it’s nothing personal. Do not take the lack of fan support personal. He tries to fight and act like an extremely weak version of Mayweather. Mayweather at least had power at the beginning of his career, at 135-140. Haney has laughable power. Mayweather would have demolished Linares, Gamboa and Diaz.

Haney is talking tough, calling out everyone, great, just like a fighter should. Problem is no one cares. He is not exciting. He has zero pop.

Hearn/DAZN can’t even manufacture the “look” of Haney having power. They tried by giving him Gamboa, who can’t stay off the canvas, ever. And Linares, who prior to his 6th loss to Haney, had 5 losses with 5 TKO’s, and multiple knock downs.

Hearn/DAZN can’t even make the fans pretend like Haney has power.

Due to that, fans will never like him. He will never get over with the fans. Most fans just want to see him get KO’ed because he sucks and want him off their tv. They see his chinny tendencies and want to see the first time he steps up to a real puncher who is top 5.

Fans who hated Mayweather tuned in to watch Mayweather lose, but they knew he didn’t suck. They knew he was not chinny. They knew he had great defense. And they had seen his pop at 130-140. Haney has none of that. He does not even have good defense.

So your answer is: because there is not much to like about him. There just isn’t. If he stops fighting today, no one will care.
