I guess fighting him instead of Briedis, Okolie and Dorticos is similar to facing Kovalev instead of Bivol and Beterbiev.
How is Okolie better than him fighting Makabu?

He’s a legit cruiser weight world champion that has knocked out other cruiser weights.
Hes a legit challenge for a smaller guy who was fighting below 160 just a few years ago.

Just personal opinion i guess you could call it. I rate Okolie more than Makabu and I imagine he'd be favourite if the 2 ever fought.

He offers a greater physical puzzle than Makabu, there's something team Canelo see in Makabu which saw him chosen. His status as WBO champ would of made a fight for Okolie's WBO title made smoothly if so desired.

Maybe acclimatising to the weight first seems a bit strange to bulk up like that for a one off fight.

That’s insane. Roy Jones is like the goat and he knocked out the guy who knocked out the goat

I doubt he would be but it’s neither her me nor there.

Okolie has beaten 1 ranked opponent in his career.

They fought somewhere in congo in a very poorly put together venue. In a park with plastic chairs.

Cieslak didnt receive his money on time and was threatening to pull out, then the promoter came by with a bag of cash lol.

During the fight they ended rounds prematurely when makabu was hurt and let rounds go significantly longer when cieslak was hurt.
I like your angle here... It sounds a bit like the great Chisora Haye fight that the British Boxing council was so determined to block lol. Turned out to be one of the best heavyweight dust ups in years.

Yet he's ranked by the likes of and ESPN and Transnational boxing above Makubu. Not so by Ring. Their ranking(s) or the ranking of their past opponents like Glowacki, Durdola or Cieslak aren't my reasoning behind picking Okolie as the tougher challenge. It's because i think he presents the tougher challenge to Canelo than Makabu does.

Team Canelo have weighed it all up, just like they did at LHW before taking their pick. That's not to say Makubu isn't good, or a threat, he is, but there's a reason he's been chosen ahead of the other champs, who are also an easier sell. The possible 190 WBC limit would no doubt been a swaying factor too i'd imagine.
