I know Canelo doesn't watch TV but it may be possible that one of his team heard that every single expert on national tv felt that Benavidez was a more difficult fight? Just sayn.

just about every expert thought the same with Smith and look what happened there. Canelo is on another level and has come a long way. Can’t say the same for Benavidez. His team would be more interested and focused on bigger names and not a former champion that lost their title for their repetitive undisciplined actions
