I remember haters saying how Floyd would duck Canelo. He didn’t, he fought him and beat him easily. And although Canelo was only 23, he had been a pro for several years and had 43 fights without a loss while fighting several champions. It was a risky fight.

It’s appropriate that their legacies are linked. Floyd beat a young bull Canelo who would go onto become an all time great too. Canelo is the king now and his legacy gets better and better which enhances Floyd’s legacy.

If you could magically make this prime Canelo 154 lbs and send him back to fight a 36 year old Floyd I think it’s still an easy win for Mayweather.

He did for sure, especially older Floyd. Funny that we’ve had a lot of modern fighters take pieces from older Floyd but I have yet to see anybody replicate young Pretty Boy Floyd.

Difference was that Teo showed up to conquer while Canelo fought like he was in awe of Floyd instead of bringing the fire to him.

Canelo has never made any excuses for that loss and has grown into the fighter he is today from it. Not sure why his rabid fans can’t accept it like he has.

Canelos fire is a combination, you cant do that with Mayweather without being continually countered, Canelos fire is not wild like Maidana, it's calculated and that makes a world of difference because Floyd is the best calculated precise fighter in a very long time, we saw again now with Plant who is not 1/2 the fighter Floyd is, he tries to imitate the style and that's as far as goes, but he did show the trouble that style gives Canelo and its because of the footwork, Floyd would do it again now if he was a natural MW, Floyd would always beat Canelo because of the footwork its only size, every other aspect Floyd wont get touched.

Considering their weights and stage of careers when they fought was the only time they could fight.

Mayweather was 21 when he beat Genaro Hernandez who was a HOF guy with an impeccable resume and Genaro stood 5'11.

              Floyd was special.

Loma would have beat him at 133 pound catchweight though. Lopez is huge for the weight.

                  1. Floyd was gonna dominate regardless, Canelo too much of a counter puncher with slow feet. He been outboxed and saved by his power too many times to think any version of him would beat Floyd, his only chance Is knocking out a guy who barely gets hit clean.

                  2. He had just stepped up in competition before the fight against imo overrated Trout, he might not have been as green as people imply, but he had minimum experience at the elite level to think he had any chance vs the P4P King.

23 yo and on PEDs vs 36yo on IV and much smaller fighter, I'd say about even. Mayweather beats Canelo every day of the week at any stage. If a 38 yo GGG can beat Canelo twice, Mayweather would have stitched him up the same.

It was always gonna be what it was. A one sided boxing lesson. Floyd is the greatest counter puncher of the last 50 years. Canelo is an excellent counter puncher, but he's at least a level below Money. His only chance was to impose his size and that's not the type of fighter he is..He has NOT changed at all. Withy hat said if you don't consider Canelo the greatest boxer in t he world, stop watching Boxing.
