I used to think he was a bit of a ducker, when he was doing catchweights and hanging around light-middleweight for too long.

Looking at how many fights he has now, I'm wondering if he wasn't ducking at all, but being obstructed (guided, managed) by De La Hoya, like all the promoters do?

Because, though I know he isn't going to 'backyards' to dismantle champions, like Usyk, 4 fights (3 of them against champions) in 12 months is an equal level of hardcore to me. The sea change pre and post-promoter is unreal.

if plant beats alvarez then hes been exposed, simple as that. but he wont, he is just like the last few canelo opponents who are there to enjoy the event, the publicity and the paycheque. no real desire to win, no game plan. maybe he willl be like smith and just try to see the 12 rounds out, or quit like saunders and kovalev after first sign of adversity.

Very fair points. It could have been his team who was really protecting him. You have to think all of these fighters (or most of them) aren't so worried about fighting another guy. They by and large probably don't have any fear of another man close to their weight.

Always hard for the A side to take all the risks - they just don't have to. But Canelo's most recent win vs BJS was very impressive to me. Probably his most impressive performance so far that I've seen.

If he wins another close decision to Plant ( like he did fighting Lara or GGG 2), that will be just another proof how overrated he is.

Plant is nothing special, if Canelo is 1. p4p, he must stop Plant or win a wide decision.
He will demolish plant ,canelo has grown since then and plant is hardly atg material

For more than a year in the Breadman mailbags you always spoke highly of Plant and that he would give Canelo problems. Since Smith your attitude changed.

            typical Canelo hater. Lol

Totally agreed. Don’t see that a lot of foghters are ‘scared’ of other boxers, but in hock to, or in awe of their management teams.

Believe it or not, I’ve got Golovkin 2 as his best win. I’ve always been a fan of GGG’s, I thought he won the 1st fight, and I know the 2nd fight was close-ish.

But I saw Canelo as having won by a couple of rounds and I was dead impressed by his improvement.
In 12 months, he appeared to be drastically more skilled, but I see retrospectively that he had all of the raw materials needed to put on that kind of performance. He just needed to knit them together.

The way he pressed the action, his constant hand speed, and the pace he fought at put him next level, for me.

Jacob and Saunders have never been elite and never will be. Kovalev was shot and he took a dive.
You are an embarrassment to Mike Armentrout XD

I was impressed with Canelo in a lot of ways in both fights. In fight 1, I thought he moved well around the ring. I didn't think he could move that well with his feet, and for that reason I expected GGG to win by KO in fight 1. I still think GGG won clean, but Canelo's toughness, hand quickness and movement impressed me.

Fight 2, we've never seen anyone hold the ring vs GGG. And in one round or so Canelo even had GGG fighting on the back foot. It was a great fight and I think Canelo gained a lot of experience from the first fight - namely, he knew what GGG had punching wise, and he knew how to take it. We've seen a different Canelo since that fight, walking down everyone he has faced (GGG 2 was the only real exception - that one was mainly in the center of the ring) - including good fighters at 168 and even 175. Very impressive.

I have to be honest though - I scored the 2nd fight much the same as the first. Canelo's handspeed helps him early, but he just isn't active enough round in and out to really compete with GGG, yet. GGG just piles up really good scoring shots, and Canelo tends to fight in spurts. So far, it's been a really tough matchup for Canelo, but GGG is a tough matchup for anyone and a great fighter, so no shame in that.

GGG's activity has been too much for me to ignore in both fights, and call a punch whatever you want (jab, body shot, hook etc), everything from GGG lands fairly hard and clean. It's easy to score punches for him.

I'd still like to see a 3rd fight. I think you have to have a great jab right now to beat Canelo - something to really back him up. GGG has the best one out right now so he still is probably the toughest fight for Canelo, sub 175 pounds. If GGG has to fight backing up, then he probably gets the same treatment as BJS and Plant - a late body-breaking KO. But who knows, I'd like to see it.
