For the current 24/7, they had a team in DF and TWO teams in Vegas following Floyd. And an editing crew in NYC that is working full time (and fast) on prepping the shows. it has been a logistical nightmare behind the scenes. I think insiders recognize how tough it is to do that show, and that's why 24/7 got Emmy Awards. Even the crappy jones/calzaghe edition.

Floyd needs two teams because of his wacky schedule. They are basically on call since FMJ trains at all times of the day or night.

Every day, they send the tape in to NYC via overnight courier. And then the writers do their thing, and get Liev to do the voiceover and then send it to sound editing. Then final editing and post-prod. All this happens in about two days for the Sat night show. It's crazy. And very expensive.

...also, HBO isn't sure there's a compelling story for either fighter (Pac-MAC).

The logistics are complicated by a Philippines location. The current mindset is that the next version (if they do one) will be different than what you saw in the past.

This is what I've heard from a TW source.
Well they must be kicking themselves for not having enough in the budget for this.

I feel like the team is good enough to find compelling stories. Maybe not for us because we know everything. But Cotto's problems with his uncle, the Margarito thing, car accident, raising a kid at 16 is all new to a casual fan.

And Pac is Pac. He seems to be on even terms with Floyd when it comes to mainstream popularity. Not to mention Freddie Roach seems to be pretty popular these days too.

It will. It will probably surpass 700k. Floyd is worth 400 on his own, and Marquez is not some bum. He is popular. Just not massively popular like a Hatton or De La Hoya.

        .
When you are confident about the ROI, you always find the money. Especially if the payout is near-term (i.e same fiscal year).

They must not feel that the investment would be fully recouped. It costs millions to produce a 24/7, and November is sweeps month, so airtime is especially valuable and competitive.

I'm a metrics pro, not a TV pro. I don't have a handle on all of the issues. But I have confidence in Taffet/Greenburg.

If they pull it, i'm sure it was well-intentioned.

        Question:

How many PPV buys would this fight do WITHOUT a 24/7?

        How about WITH a 24/7?

Side note: do you prefer Sunday or Saturday air times?

Nah I think Pacquiao - Cotto will top it. I'm sure it'll do well but Pacman has the momentum in boxing right now, added with the prospect of a war and a great fighter with a great following on the other side of the ring and you got very big numbers.

But when you start talking about 500K+, especially into the range of 700K+. you aren't talking about the knowledgeable boxing fan. You are including the casual fans...and the non-fans.

Pac is popular. He's the goods. I'm just not sold on Miguel's popularity. It wasn't that long ago that MAC did around 300K with Shane Mosley, and was on the lowest rated WCB show in history.

What does the non-fan know about miguel Cotto?

am surprise the fight sold more than a million, I think the Pac-cotto fight should out do that now when i think about it..HBO should try and find the funds for a 24/7 show and i hope they can recoup their monies back.

Even if pac-cotto does better i'd say it was a great call with the unexpected success of this fight
