  • Do Fighters Feel Guilty When Their Opponent Dies?

    What do you think?

Kovalev for example dgaf and seemed proud of it

Ezzard Charles on the other hand was affected by the death of an opponent

I believe that no boxer, or less than 0-1 % of them wants to kill anyone, but both boxers go into the ring with the knowledge that they might not live to see another day, though, of course, it is rare, not like it happens every fight week. But when it does happen, it could easily have been them, it's just the way it is in boxing. A fight a couple of years ago that went the distance, the winner got interviewed after the fight and was talking well, a few hours later, he died because of the fight, Scott Westgarth was his name. Nash out.

All that you have is a perception.
As I recall Kovalev did not feel good about it and tried helping the fighter's family.

I think like everything in life, each person is different and there is no way to have a general consensus about this.

Kovalev felt really bad and tried to do a lot for the family.
He fought at home for the first time since the incident and really didn't look himself in there. You could tell it had an affect on him.

I think or would hope all boxers would feel horribly and in some way feel some guilt even if it was an accident.

Charles Conwell was the fighter who took Patrick Day and he seemed extremely bothered by it but said in an interview later that he was also motivated and felt like he was fighting on for both of them.

It seems like they all do really. Matias took a surprising loss, has rebounded since then but it must have been a factor.
