How Long Until Cubans Fully Learn Pro Boxing

The Cuban people have great genetics for boxing imo

but they haven’t fully adapted to a pro style yet

Among the Cubans Erislandy Lara has the right mindset for pro boxing

Lara is tough and will stick it out in a dogfight

Yeah Lara is a beast for sure. Even at this age when he is obviously shot he’s a tough night out.

He is obviously the best Cuban in recent memory for me. Big fan of Lara.

Nah, he loses to Spence or Crawford.

This guy is living the American dream. I saw his video of starving himself to fight for Cuba.

If they turned pro younger they’d have far more professional styles. I think the problem is a lot of them spend a decade in the Cuban system so their amateur habits are completely drilled into them. Audley Harrison had a similar problem, not that he was anywhere near as talented as some of these guys but he also just couldn’t shake his amateur habits. Zou Shiming was another, as was Raushee Warren.

IMO… Any none Eastern European/Eurasian amateur who’s spent a long time in their respective system will tend to struggle to adapt to the pro’s. The only reason I leave out these guys is because they generally have a pro type styles in the amateurs. If you look at guys like GGG, Beterbiev or even Khyzniak who won the Silver in Tokyo, they’re already walking guys down and looking to hurt guys in the amateurs. Instead of the point-scoring, hit-don’t be hit style of the Cubans.

That’s obviously a generalisation though, there are guys on both sides who adapted and struggled to adapt.

              Loma comes to mind too

              great technique and skills

but doesn’t fight with that mean streak that pros have

Floyd loved to box and win on points, but he’d shift gears to hurt the opponent if pushed

They used to know pro boxing just fine until the Communists took over.

They probably never will until Cuba allows them to go professional or if they defect early enough.
