“We have an MRI scan that confirms he has a rotator cuff tear. He has a significant tear,” Dr. Neal ElAttrache told ESPN after the fight. ElAttrache said the injury will sideline the 36-year-old eight-division world champion for between nine and 12 months.
The initial rotator cuff injury(strain) during training camp also forced Pac to stop training for more than 2 weeks which interrupted his preparation for the fight against Mayweather. It became a full blown tear during the actual fight though which affected his performance.
Pac was well within his rights to call for a rematch because of that injury but Floyd never gave it to him. In retrospect Pac should have withdrawn from his fight with Floyd because of the handicap the initial training camp injury caused him.
Exactly....he should have called it off rather than claim being injured latter

Just look at the GOAT rankings made by mostly american writers. Manny isnt even in the top 10 of their rankings. even though manny manny's Resume outweighs most of the,. common when will we see a Flyweight destroying most of the best welterweights. and they said that Oscar, Cotto, margarito are drained? oh Common! where talking about david fighting goliath..Last edited by Mateuz asato; 08-14-2021, 03:05 AM.

Pulling out before a fight due to an injury is a lot more respectable than going through with the fight, getting your ass kicked, and then tell fans and media that you were injured. I do not care if it’s a real injury and it really affected you during the fight. It’s the principal of the subject.
I was leaning towards Pacquiao winning this fight, and now with that news, in hindsight I think Pacquiao would have destroyed Spence due to the injury. It would have gotten worse once Pacquiao started touching that area.
Now Spence is fcked. Pac still wants the fight and now him and Roach know about the injury. Doctors can sell full detached retina recovery all they want, evidence shows damaged retinas are career enders. Even if a fighter decides to fight on afterward, it will show in their performances and their continuous eye issues that they are done.
Mares was done after his, hasn’t fought ever since. SRL had to retire to let it heal, then came out of retirement after 3 years, past his prime. Margarito had a damaged retina and orbital bone, he was done at the top. Margarito went to one of the most highly respected eye centers in the US, University of Utah’s John A. Moran Eye Center, same one I go to. I remember being told I couldn’t box anymore when I was 19. It was not an issue related to boxing, but no responsible ophthalmologist will tell you “yeah go ahead you can still fight.” after an eye injury or delicate eye surgery. UNLESS, that doctor has been compromised and paid off to give a fighter the green light so that fighter and his promoter can make several million dollars more. The risk is worth taking when there is millions of dollars involved.
Hopefully it has been a very minor tear that they've spotted in time, and surgery/recovery will be 100% successful.
Thanks.

The doctor's made the right call here. At the time of the pre-fight checkup; Spence felt both sound and healthy and yet his left eye still had a slight retinal tear in it. Which he was unaware of. He offered to have the surgery immediately after the fight.
However, after receiving medical advice from the doctors that he wouldn't be cleared to fight again and lose his boxing license unless he had emergency surgery ASAP. He opted to have the surgery before it got worse and potentially end his boxing career.
It's not like it's the end of the world. He will be back. The doctors are expecting him to make a full recovery and resume his boxing career again.
