I predicted Lara would win. He was awful. Did not deserve a win. Without Canelo, there would be no “fight”. Lara was in there on PPV fighting boxing’s top seller and all he did was impersonate DLH in the last rounds vs Trinidad. For the whole fight. Just awful. There is outboxing your opponent, and there’s plain old avoiding/not engaging. Lara did the bare minimum in that fight, showed up, jabbed, ran. No power punches, jab run, jab run, jab run. “He won doe”. No, Canelo threw and landed the more meaningful shots. Lara showed up to jab, run and complain in the end. That was his gameplan. Jab, run, complain that he was robbed. He was not there to fight.
GGG were close fights. Again, it’s a case of Canelo outlanding his opponent in the power punch department. The GGG we were so accustomed to seeing, the power puncher, was jabbing all night. I am not entirely sure why boxers think the key to beating Canelo is to jab and disengage all night. Even Mayweather knew he had to land power shots to win. Mayweather knew he could not just jab and run like he did vs Baldomir. He knew if he allowed Canelo to outland him in power shots, he would lose. Jabs will never be better than power punching. No matter what anyone says. If you outland your opponent in power shots in more rounds, you’re going to win.
