Yeah and he officially weighed 138 lbs against hatton.

the only thing that makes me think its sketchy is that cotto put his WW belt on the line in a "catch-weight" bout
A WW fight is anything between 140-147 lbs. Even cotto is not crying about this anymore. Give it up.

You're kidding right?About the safety part, not the greed.

And if 1lb seperates how good Cotto truly is (when he's weighed 146 before) then it doesn't reflect favourably about his skills and he should go up to 154 division.
How much weight did Mayweather give up to Oscar on fight night?

That's not what I'm asking. Why was weight divisions made up in the first place?

            I agree.

The reason there are so many weight divisions is so the sanctioning bodies can double their revenue. The proliferation of weight divisions is one of the biggest problems in boxing.

And I ask you this: what is Floyd's walking weight compared with pacquiao's? And looking at the Oscar-Floyd fight--they're was hardly a size disparity between the two.

A weight class every 7 pounds is not about safety.

                Its about greed.

if pbf and dlh were the same size, how much worse would dlh's beating by pbf be?

so calzaghe's defenses at 168 lbs are garbage, because according to you 168 lbs is an abomination?

I agree to an extent. Safety probably isnt the best term, the best term would be performance. 7lbs difference can make a huge difference in performance especially in the lower weight classes.
