He should be embarrassed by his level of opposition since acquiring that belt. If the Canelo fight doesn't come to fruition there's just more to be embarrassed about. Sad thing is Al Haymon will continue to pay him to fight patsies

idiotic take...show me a promoter/manager who has a 100 percent positive track record of everything working out in his fighters favor....you cant and wont

promoters/managers have to take calculated risks at times....it didnt work out well for kownacki....thats just how it goes...thats the business....

haymon has alot of figthers...and alot of "name brand" fighters to find fights and dates and money for.....more than any other guy in the business.....he as an extensive roster of guys .....and trust this...kownacki was not one of his top level priorities anyways...hes not a wilder, tank, spence etc.....he was a guy he was grooming to be an opponent for someone.....he was like an andy ruiz

for what? having a reasonable and sensible take? lol

plant is 29....he can earn having a couple of more fights and that fight will still be there in a year....and it will be worth more in a year.......plant also has only 21 fights and could use a bit more seasoning before getting beat by the best.......

if he gets beat and loses that fight so be it...its a gamble...a risk...but its a calculated one and one hes willing to take....

i can tell alot of you are broke irl...you have that mentality....you would all just jump at the highest figure as soon as possible....not every fighter does that

There's no bigger money fight or legacy fight for Caleb Plant than Canelo.

If Plant doesn't jump at this opportunity then I don't what the hell he is thinking.

If he loses so what? Just learn from the experience and come back stronger. That's what Canelo did after losing to Floyd.

canelo and plant arent the same.....first plant isnt as good as canelo and likely knows that....2nd plant doesnt have the appeal or fanbase of canelo.....

heres what plant is thinking...or the people running his career....and i can guarantee you this is exactly it

plant loses to canelo he gets a great payday....interest in him drops greatly....so does his earning power....

but he fights lesser guys hes likely to beat and earns while doing so...his profile and interest in plant/canelo continues to rise and his stake in the fight also continues to increase....the overall pot of money increases as well....and also he gets more seasoning to possibly help him maybe even win the fight(we know he wont but)....plant only has 21 pro fights

is it possible he loses in the meantime and loses the canelo fight? sure....of course....but also not likely if matched correctly...its a calculated risk/gamble...and most fighters in his position would take it.....hed hardly be the first fighter to make such a bet

That's thinking like a marinating businessman.

Canelo thinks like a fighter which is one of the reasons I've become a big fan of his. We need more like him in this sport. Guys who care about their craft, who chase greatness and let the money come as a result of that. Not as a result of phony matchmaking.

Nope, unifying didn't screw Lopez, he screwed himself for refusing to rematch Lomachenko, the p4p guy he took the belts from. Instead, he chose to go to a fringe PPV promoter to fight a virtual unknown, on one of the busiest big name fight weekends this year. Realizing his giant screw up, he claims to have contracted covid in order to save face. If he had rematched Lomachenko, he would be in a much better position than he is in now.
