A star? Boxing only has a few guys I would consider actual “stars” right now and Tank isn’t one of them.

He is flying high in Nash out's P4P list, so you do have to factor that in. Nash out.

fair enough....youre right probably a better way to put it...just my opinion that 200k with that opponent and price its prob a success...anything that doesnt bomb or "tank is prob a success these days

He has power, a decent looking record (in numerical terms) and is American. That's it.

Others deserve way more hype than him such as Teofimo and Spence.

Because he is one of the few fighters who can put 15,000 people in the stands.

He is a ticket seller. Not a ppv attraction.

And sold 200k PPVs against that unknown.

There are a lot of factors that have to be considered with PPV numbers these days, the amount of illegal streaming taking away buys has to be huge, and considering some other straight boxing numbers 200K seems OK.

On the other hand you look at what Tyson did recently and it shows there are still big numbers for the right people, although I also consider that a Tyson crowd is likely to be older and less knowledgeable about illegal streaming maybe. But then you look at Jake Paul fights, surely his main demo would be all over pirate streams and yet he pulls numbers.

To do really big numbers a fight obviously has to crossover to the mainstream, like Tyson, Floyd, Conor (Joshua in the UK, Manny in places) etc, where it is talked about everywhere and gets that feedback loop increasing interest.

I guess you couldn't really call him a star in any legitimate sense currently, definitely has a good fan base and the potential to crossover and become one though.
