MMA is still a very young sport. The places that churn out great boxers in large numbers have, for the most part, been doing so for decades if not centuries. MMA is still changing and evolving rapidly compared to boxing, and consequently training methods and philosophies are still evolving too. What guys are currently winning fights with changes every few years and as those changes come along, fighters that are training in certain methods or styles will have an advantage. Maybe in ten years bare knuckle MMA will be more mainstream and you'll see Lethwei guys from Burma start popping up on the world level (Lethwei is essentially bare knuckle Muay Thai plus more throws, sweeps, and headbutts). Maybe someone who is great at winning fights with throws will start dominating and we'll see a surge of wrestlers or judoka.
Boxing also had a massive head start in places like North America, Europe, and Asia. By the time a lot of places in Africa had enough accumulated capital to build high quality boxing gyms with high quality trainers, MMA was already rising up in the scene. So they started on a more level ground as opposed to a place like Mexico or the US or the UK, which have been minting the world's best boxers for a very long time.Comment

Cause you need far more talent to achieve stuff in boxing than you do in UFC. There isn’t a good enough infrastructure for African boxers. Plus, internationally boxing is far greater in terms of depth. The post above explains things very well IMO.Last edited by RJJ-94-02=GOAT; 06-30-2021, 10:59 PM.Comment

Its a coin flip whether you'll get a boring or exciting fight from him really. The Kelvin fight was a classic, and he destroyed Costa and Whittaker, but then the Yoel fight was terrible and the Vettori fight wasnt great either.Comment

A better question is where the **** are the brazilians in boxing, they're bosses in the MMA world, but nowhere to be seen in boxing
The infraestructure in Mexico isn't good at all, in fact it's quite terrible, the govt. doesn't give a crap
That's why boxers have to become pros at 15yo, and Mexico is a joke at the world amateur stage and olympics
Yet Mexico is a professional boxing powerhouse, so there must be other reasons besides ¨infraestructure¨Last edited by lopetego; 07-01-2021, 01:09 PM.Comment
