Chavez Sr. was straight up and down with no special effects. He beat like 80 cab drivers and bums. One of the most overrated fighters in boxing history.

That's what Greg Haugen said. How did that work out for him?

Not very good for that guy. But all the actual skilled high level guys I watched him fight, he lost. They robbed Pernell Whitaker with a draw. Oscar knocked his ass out. Kostya Tszyu knocked his ass out too. Only Mexicans think he was supremely skilled due to bias.

Are you trying to say Chavez Sr is not a Hall of Famer?

He is a Hall of Famer for sure. Arturo Gatti is in the Hall of Fame ffs lol. I just feel he is overrated as hell by Mexicans. He was not all that skilled imo. He beat mostly bums. When he fought skilled guys he looked less than stellar or got his ass whooped. What's his best win? Roger Mayweather? Meldrick Taylor? Pernell Whitaker was the best guy he fought and they robbed Sweet Pea with a draw. The next best guy was Oscar who knocked his ass out. Then Tszyu who also knocked his ass out. This is my opinion, you are entitled to yours. I just think he wasn't all that in the skills department when faced against good opponents. He was also very dirty with lowblows, leading with the head causing headbutts, rabid punches, etc...

              @ Greg Haugen
Was he supposed to be someone of significance ?

Yeah, Sr made him eat them words. Doesn't mean Greg was lying. All a person has to do is HONESTLY look over a persons resume. It is NO REFLECTION on the fan !!! If a resume is garbage, it's garbage.

Love marquez boxing style and would always try to imitate his counters in sparring, but he is limited.

its masked by him fighting against a lot of come forward fighters who create counter openings for him, but he always struggled as soon as you give him range and movement. He is just not that good on the frontfoot.

Canelo had those issues early on vs lara (who tbh was a top rated mover). He still isnt the best at it, because he doesnt have the quickest feet, but he is better at cutting off the ring and slow down movers with sharp body punches nowadays.

All great fighters IMO, but Canelo would not look as good with out Eddy Reynoso, that's for damn sure.

I do think he's more skilled than Chavez which is not saying he's a better fighter overall because i can choose between them.

As for Marquez i don't think so. JMM was a true master of the fighting game and one of the best counterpunchers i ever saw but overall Canelo is a better fighter because of his chin and power.

No, he is not. There was much more competition around when Chavez and Marquez were fighting.
