That’s a convenient excuse, along with saying that the WBO belt doesn’t mean anything. Of course that would change if someone like Jaime Munguia held the title but unifying belts was positive last time I checked.Comment

Sergio Martinez was only able to “earn” his big opportunity because guys like Paul Williams and Kelly Pavlik were willing to face him.
Andrade has a title so why should he have to beg other champions to unify? Why should he have to beg his #1 contender Jaime Munguia to take a shot at his belt?Comment

The only way we would know that for sure is if they actually make an offer. Perhaps he would take less to secure the big opportunity that has eluded him so far. Only one way to find out...Comment

Sergio Martinez had the interim title at 154 and, knowing the WBC wasnt going to enforce his shot and that Chavez Jr wasn't going to fight him, moved up in weight and fought the most avoided man in boxing for like $300k.

The same amount of money Andrade turned down to fight Charlo back when he didn't have a title.
175 is pretty thin, I'm sure Beterbiev would give Andrade a shot.Comment

That's kind of the point - they wanted GGG to get a belt, so they let him fight Derevy and paid Derevy well. They wanted the belt for GGG so he had something to offer Canelo.
The 2 GGG-Canelo fights = big business.
Every other fight for GGG, he isn't really a superstar. And GGG-Andrade would surely lose money if both guys were paid what they wanted/have been paid recently, especially for a unification.
I'd love to see it, though.Comment

Martinez and Williams were both former 154 lb. titlists and they met at 160.

Yes, we know Andrade shouldn’t have turned down the Charlo fight but how long are we gonna use something that happened in 2014 as an excuse for 2021?
Also, its unfair to ask Andrade specifically to move up two divisions when no one else is expected to. Canelo fought at 175 but that was a one-time lucrative and calculated risk.Comment
