He's never fought an elite level fighter in their prime and at their best weight and no Corrales was not at his best weight when they fought. That champions argument is a silly smoke screen used to avoid nuance. For one, I don't think there were even as many belts available to fight for before his era so it's a largely unfair comparison. And even still, in my opinion any elite fighter can at least do a similar thing to what Mayweather did, as in they can all beat a large number of out of prime champions while avoiding unifications with the few primed elite ones - you see Canelo following that blueprint now. If not for the Mayweather loss, he suddenly looks like one of the greatest of all time too. Most other elite fighters have challenged themselves at some point with another primed elite fighter and continue to do so in to later ages, like Pacquaio, and that's gives us a more accurate context to measure their greatness. Mayweather is great but I can't call him the greatest because he's largely unproven to me. I put Andre Ward above Mayweather in large part due to the Kovalev fights, those fights shown me more than anything in Mayweather's career.

corrales hadnt even fought anyone when floyd fought him and did all his best work at 135. he had 1 top 5 win and 2 top 10 wins and he was p4p #5 lmao. also the top 5 win over garcia was a come from behind win after being outboxed. its a good win for floyd but corrales was so overhyped at the time and only redeemed himself with quality wins after the floyd loss which should show you floyds mindset. oh this guy is an easy mark ill fight him! same thing he did with baldomir at ww but not marg, cotto, pac, etc...

ward lost the first kovalev fight clearly. 2nd fight was just a foul fest. his entire career was. im not a big floyd fan but he clearly was much better and didnt have to cheat nonstop to win. ward knew he could cheat at home his entire career. that tournament was setup so he didnt have to travel while other guys had 4 fights in 4 countries.
