He has beaten more world champ than anyone possibly lost less rounds on champ level than anyone, retired 51-0 won a bronze medal. But it is true he didn’t fight legit everyone at their best so what is your argument on why he is or isn’t the goat?
Is Floyd Mayweather the goat why or why not?

None of that matters because of when he fought compared to when others fought.
I find it hard to rank him above someone like a Jack Johnson and many others who accomplished who accomplished similar things while facing incredible racism.Comment

Nobody was complaining about Shane when he starched Magrgarito the fight before but once Floyd fights him he's old. Shane turned pro in 93', Floyd turned pro in 96'. Hardly a massive gap there.
Oscar wasn't at the best in his career, but he was still a phenom atg and had a lot left. Does a 99' version of Oscar beat Floyd? Hard to say, but probably not.
On paper Floyd is the GOAT, but real aficionado's know Robinson is the real goat and would have blistered Floyd at 147. Ray turned pro at 135 and spent a lot of time at 147 so yea, it's a real fight.Comment

No because Ray Robinson, Henry Armstrong, Muhammad Ali, Ray Leonard etc all exist.
Not saying he’s not in the conversation though. He’s definitely top 10 for me. I have him at #6 on my personal list.
Despite my username I only have Roy at #5 which is pretty contradictory.

but mosley was old. people thought that for years before the marg fight. was that all erased because of one win? probablity says the more likely truth is hes still old. floyd knew this of course. he could barely keep up with shot mayorga before the marg fight and if you watch the marg fight you can see he's clinching nonstop. it wasnt some virtuoso performance. not at all. also did you see any of his fights after floyd? he had nothing left. actually did you see the floyd fight? he had nothing left after gassing in 2 rounds. a lot of evidence there to ignore in favor of the hes old column.

oscar had a lot left...based on what? he lost to sturm bad decision. lost to hopkins. beat mayorga. 1 win in about 4 years when he fought floyd. after floyd he looked terrible against steve forbes. looked terrible against pac. not sure how that stretch can lead you to believe he had a lot left. those arent all time great wins like leonard over benitez, hearns, duran, hagler, etc..they are much closer to berbick over ali then leonards wins its just this era you can easily pick up belts and the like to make it seem like you are still relevant based on your name valueLast edited by daggum; 06-23-2021, 05:40 PM.Comment

He's never fought an elite level fighter in their prime and at their best weight and no Corrales was not at his best weight when they fought. That champions argument is a silly smoke screen used to avoid nuance. For one, I don't think there were even as many belts available to fight for before his era so it's a largely unfair comparison. And even still, in my opinion any elite fighter can at least do a similar thing to what Mayweather did, as in they can all beat a large number of out of prime champions while avoiding unifications with the few primed elite ones - you see Canelo following that blueprint now. If not for the Mayweather loss, he suddenly looks like one of the greatest of all time too. Most other elite fighters have challenged themselves at some point with another primed elite fighter and continue to do so in to later ages, like Pacquaio, and that's gives us a more accurate context to measure their greatness. Mayweather is great but I can't call him the greatest because he's largely unproven to me. I put Andre Ward above Mayweather in large part due to the Kovalev fights, those fights shown me more than anything in Mayweather's career.

Jack Johnson lol, you people are emersed in the hype of boxing not the actual fights themselves, everyone is rated in your brain firstly by your own likes and dislikes and then on the hype that fits your own agenda, Jack Johnson lol, Jack would be put to sleep by any well-schooled legit modern HW anybody with eyes and knows a little about boxing could see it, Jack is a TModel ford and you think it can beat a modern sports car.
GOAT is fan hype it's not reality, in any sport or any competition there is only fractions between the best of the best, you could wave the magic wand and all fighters are the same weight, then you fight all the greats against each other and the reality is any of the true greats could beat the other greats on their night, its one thing to step into the ring and another to being honed to perfection and peaking for that hour on that day.
Boxing is just competition, same as a race car or racehorse, fighters are trained machines and when you look at them from that aspect all the hype BS goes out the window and the technique and conditioning come in where you're not looking at a person but a machine.
Floyd is not the GOAT nobody is, but Floyd is in the same group of elites that would be the top 10% of all fighters, GOAT is only a Pedestal that fans created.Comment

There used to be a maximum of 8 champions at one time. Now there’s a maximum of 68.
