I agree Charlo's boxing iq isn't anything special but you're saying Golovkin deciding to fight in the pocket and risk losing a fight he didn't really want to take isn't an exhibit of low boxing iq?

Absolutely not. Golovkin's style is to fight in the pocket and use pressure to mentally and physically break an opponents will. He only fights on the outside when faced with power punchers for example when he faced Jacobs and Lemieux. Even against Canelo he chose to fight in the pocket - not saying he didn't value Canelo's punching power but that's just his style. Everything Golovkin does is calculated - even when it looks like he's taking shots he's either using his body positioning to not receive the full force of the punch, he blocks shots with the strongest part of the skull, the forehead and he rides shots - these are all reasons why people say Golovkin has the best chin in boxing. Every fighter has their own unique styles; Fury uses herky jerky movements, Pacquiao fights on his toes and Wilder throws ridiculous windmill punches - it is what it is.

Believe me, Golovkin's boxing IQ is right up there with any of Lomachenko, Inoue, Canelo or Roman Gonzalez!

I think Charlo underestimated Montiel because of his KO loss to Munguia. The kid was game and tough. His 22 wins all came by KO, so he obviously can ****. Good to see Charlo hang in and win a tough fight. As others have said, maybe his looking a bit vulnerable will open up the door for some of these divas to take a chance against him.
