    Let's Talk Shakur Stevenson............

One of the best young talents in the game returns on Saturday night. His opponent? A no-namer from Nambia named Jeremiah Nakathila. Since winning the title against Joet Gonzalez, the last three opponents for Stevenson have been Caraballo, Khan Clary and now Nakathila. Stevenson clearly has wanted Valdez for some time now but hasn't been able to get that fight. The WBO has mandated that Herring faces Stevenson next but what if Herring gets the Valdez fight? Where does Stevenson go from there? How do you see his career unfolding? Stevenson doesn't have an exciting style but he is talented and one of the best defensive fighters in the sport. Will he struggle his entire career getting big fights because of this? How does he change that without having to drastically change his style?

Stevenson is going to get a title shot, even if he has to fight for a vacant belt. Once he has a belt he just needs to defend it impressively and eventually he will get an Oscar Valdez type of fight, even if he has to go to 135 to get it.

That may be the way to go. I wonder if he will be able to prevent Herring/Valdez from even unifying in the first place? If so, then he can beat Herring and get the Valdez fight.

He should have never turned down the Warrington fight. Even if he had to take a little less money than he wanted, he would have beaten Warrington fairly easy. Missed opportunity.

Agree that he should've taken the Warrington fight. Since then he hasn't had much opportunity to show how good he is. I liked the idea of Loma returning to 130 with Stevenson being a great opponent, 2 very skillful, technical, talented fighters hard to say who would win. For now he's waiting on Valdez/Herring but I hope he's not waiting too long. Some good fighters 'across the street' at 130 but without somebody changing promoters they seem unlikely to happen.

I mean at 130-135 at TR there is Herring, Valdez, Berchelt, Lomachenko and Lopez. He has PLENTY of options at his side of the street.

The Loma fight would be great but Stevenson may need to go up to 135 to get that fight. Loma can come down to 130 I guess, but to make that fight, Stevenson should do what he needs to do to get it.

Stevenson passes the eye test but hasn’t fought anyone of note. But I just can’t watch his fights unless I mute the tv. The level of nuthugging by the ESPN crew is unbearable.

Stevenson indeed passes the eye test but now just needs that big fight. He also needs a good opponent who will come to win to make his fights better. Or else he's just going to get to coast to shutout wins.

Poorly Promoted! Awful Matchmaking! How in the HELL is a Olympic Silver Medal Winner and a True Blue Chip Amateur Prospect not bigger even as big as Teofimo, Tank, Ryan Garcia or Haney right now. It is like he is on the outside looking in and you would think out of all of them he has more exposure fighting on ESPN but yet all the talk instead is about Lopez, Tank, Garcia, Haney

Need to self promote more though! Boxers and their EGO, suck up your pride and EGO and go hang around the Paul Brothers and have them help you promote like Ryan Garcia lol

He's only 23 so let's see how popular he is in a few years. Teofimo got the big fight and took full advantage of it and that's why he's at where he's at right now.

Stevenson also has to deliver on his performances. He's getting ESPN slots so it is only so much TR can do for him. It has to be on Stevenson to shine in these fights against inferior competition.
