Ruiz was never top 2 either to my knowledge. After he beat AJ, Fury and Wilder were 1 and 2 with Ring and that’s why they fought for the vacant ring title.
I never said it was an elite career either just that Wilder clearly isn’t a “bum” like the OP was suggesting. The 10 defences are historically impressive but Wilder’s resume is solid yet nothing special. He has good wins but zero great wins.
Ruiz was ranked 1 by TBRB on account of beating the number 1 ranked fighter. Joshua dropped to 4. Then after Joshua beat the number 1 ranked fighter he moved to 3. Figure that out!!! There was never a consensus one and two... not with that kind of logic. But I digress.
Klitschko was ranked 1 only a few months prior to the Joshua fight... though of course chasing Tyson for more than 12 months meant he was classed as inactive, which wasn't the case given he almost constantly had a fight scheduled. Let's be realistic, he was ranked 1 but just couldn't get Fury to fulfill his contractual obligations. Deja vu.
I agreed with you that Wilder's defences aren't worth nothing. You have to factor in the opponents though, and it's a really poor resume, in an era where others fighters were able to build a very good resume.
I wouldn't say he's the biggest hype job in boxing, though. If he was such a big hype job then he'd be more well known in his own country. If he was an A-list celebrity sportsman, up there with the Tom Brady's and Lebron James's and he wasn't beating Travis Kauffman's or Artur Szpilka's then I'd say he was a massive hype job. He creates his own bad media, yes, but Finkel wasn't marketing him until they got the arbitration result.
Also, his power is undeniable which also negates this whole hype job image. He can end any fight if it connects, in a second.

he deserves everything he gets after how he has behaved tbh. The most embarrassing behaviour in sports history.
he better be glad that boxing isnt as big as it used to be or else he would be a legitimate global laughing stock.
its not just the bum hunting and belt hostage taking, its not just the absolutely embarrassingly low quality record, its not just the cringe outbursts and threats of murder, its not just the zero skills, its not just the totally corny charisma-less personality or the petulant disgraceful avoidance of responsibility for his losses....
It's the fact that he has done all this while believing that he has been imbued with the "ancestry spirit" of the Bronze Bomber. He said to Fury in their face off "its your God against my god". And that's a huge red flag for me.
****in Voodoo Priest Beyonce lol most of all I can't respect that.
Some seem to think Fury's win over Wilder makes him an ATG while at the same time declaring Wilder the worst champ in heavyweight history. Both things can't be true.
Here's what's true. Wilder barely won the Bronze media winning his second Olympic fight via narrow margin ( 10-10 judges vote ) vs a person from Morocco then was promptly out classed ( 7-1 ) in his 3rd match up. He did this at heavyweight with an easy draw. If he was fighting at super heavyweight, he's likely stopped or doesn't advance past his 2nd match, Never have I seen Bronze so celebrated.
Wilder was hyped from day as a pro, dropped by a no body. Then his manager paid for a bunch of people to fall down for him when he hit them. Wilder has not beat a top 10 ring ranked opponent under age 35.
Fury feasts on old men and guys ranked outside the top ten as well. This is the " champion " ?
Fury was just the first real fight Wilder fought. A decent top ten type beat a Fraud. That was the fight. No wonder Fury wont fight any puncher with skills and wants Wilder for a 3rd time!
The movement Wider fights a top ten guy not named Fury, he's taking the count, ad Fury's big win won't look so good. In terms of Alphabet champs if Wilder actually would fight ranked contenders would be viewed more like Charles Martin. But he fights and sometimes struggles in victory vs non-top ten guys instead. Ho-hum.

Did TBRB have Ruiz #1? Shame on them. That’s fair enough though- I can’t argue with it because they are generally impartial.
I don’t put much stock in AJ’s Wlad win, there are just far too many asterisks, 41 yrs old, 18 months inactive, coming off a decisive loss. He showed a lot of heart by getting up off the the floor to win but that was a well past his prime Klitschko. It’s in that Tyson-Holmes category for me, and even Holmes was younger and coming off a far better performance than Wlad was.
I don’t think any heavyweight has a great resume tbh. Fury has two great wins but then little else after including no defences. AJ and Wilder both have good wins and several defences but there’s nobody special on their resumes either.
