Those title defences were against terrible opponents, whilst he avoided the biggest threats in the same division as that time. He was a champ from 2015 until 2020 and the only guys he fought that you can give credit to were Fury and Ortiz (Maybe?)
If that same time he didn’t have names of a lot of HW that actually would have made his resume look better. Not even saying he wouldn’t have beaten them or anything like that, but he just made terrible defences.
Wondering if he'll get credit for the Arreola defense if Chris fights and beats Dillian Whyte next
Wilder is far from a bum. Technically below average but the power to nullify it. However he is probably the biggest embarrassment in the sport due to his mouth and endless excuses.
Just look at the names your listing. Takam, Ustinov, Charr… Do you even follow boxing?
Wilder is easily still top 3 and is debatably still top 2. AJ lost to Andy Ruiz Jr that’s a far worse loss than losing to Fury for example.
Wilder obliterates Dillian Whyte or Joseph Parker. So you rate those guys but don’t rate Wilder. Talk about delusional.
I don’t like Wilder, but if you look at things objectively, the guys proven himself as a very good Heavyweight. His record proves that. Fury, AJ and Wilder are clearly the top 3 in the world at the moment only the fanboys or haters think otherwise. You’re evidently one or the other.
Wilder might have obliterated Parker. But he didn't. Joshua beat him when he was an undefeated champion ranked 3.
He might have beaten Klitschko. But he didn't. Joshua did when he was ranked 2.
Joshua had a bad loss to Ruiz. But he also beat him when he was very debatably ranked 1 or 2.
That's objective.
His knockout run and title defences warrant acknowledgment. He was a long reigning champion and that's not something that happens by accident.
His CV needs to be looked at too. And it's trash. He has one good win against Ortiz, who was ranked below the guys mentioned above.
Ruiz was never top 2 either to my knowledge. After he beat AJ, Fury and Wilder were 1 and 2 with Ring and that’s why they fought for the vacant ring title.
I never said it was an elite career either just that Wilder clearly isn’t a “bum” like the OP was suggesting. The 10 defences are historically impressive but Wilder’s resume is solid yet nothing special. He has good wins but zero great wins.
His 1-2/straight down the pipe is a level above what most of the division can handle. Make of that what you will, if Wilder warrants such heavy criticism the entire division does.
