Haney doesn't have an inside game, you are right but it doesn't mean that he isn't doing the same motions as Toney.

To me, it looks like a **** james Toney. People think "Mayweather" because they see shoulder roll but Haney doesn't control distance or set traps. He just welcomes the action and think he'll best them because he is usually the better man in the ring.

I don't know why that is such a far fetched concept for you.

And I also don't see why you think "every young black fighter is new Mayweather". Not to me and I even stated so by saying Haney is like Toney to me but that's unacceptable to you because everybody is supposed to think they are new Mayweathers?

I’ve watched tonnes of Toney and they fight NOTHING a like. Toney is an inside fighter, Haney never even engages on the inside. You’re talking absolute nonsense with that comparison mate, I get it’s subjective but I doubt you’ll find any other poster on here that thinks Devin Haney and James Toney have a similar style.

You could be right tbf, I have big concerns over Garcia’s mentality also.
I hope I'm wrong because he's very talented but I get the feeling he doesn't love the sport so much as he love the attention and life it affords him. I also think there's deeper things there but that's another story.

He’d rather be famous than fight 100%. I don’t see him having a particularly long career either.

I hate to say this but he probably got raped like Oscar. Or at least something messed up.

SRL was also ******ed. It's a real and unfortunate thing. The drug abuse and other things make more sense in hindsight.

              • I agree. My man looked basic as f**k vs JoJo. Nothing special at all. I can't compliment anything about him other than he's undefeated... Not sure how, but he is. Guy is a loss waiting to happen.

                • He's huge for the division I think he'll be a lot more effective at 140.

maybe not but that's my take. Either way, I clearly do not fall into your assumption that "every young, slick black fighter is new mayweather"

But beyond all that, what comparison would you make for Devin Haney then? Respectfully.

Toney's strength is on the inside, where Haney is useless.

That fight with Barkley is at 168 and if anything is a showcase of a perfect style match up for him (against an aging past prime fighter) where he's on his chest and he's pieicing him up on the inside. You'd never see Haney in that kind of fight because his inside game is none existent.

I don't think I've ever seen Toney throw punches like Haney does. Haney throws punches like dangly almost, he's rangey and long. Toney is more compact and fights closer and shorter, throws way shorter punches.

Any weight for Toney, MW, SMW, LHW, CW, HW. He's slow footed and stuck in the mud. It's his biggest flaw by far (Amongst many others)

I don't see the comparison at all. It's night and day to me.
Who would you say is a solid comparison to Haney's style then?

Because when I first watched Haney and the couple of fights after, I couldn't put a finger on it but I certainly did not see Mayweather when he did that shoulder roll. I saw a s/hit version of James Toney and that's what has stuck with me since.
