  • Why do people act like Charlo-Derevychenko was a blowout

My scoring and interpretation of that fight pretty much aligned with the punch stats - Charlo maybe landed a couple more punches per round on average (Compubox said by 40 punches overall, I don't think it was quite that many but not like I actually counted). And Derevy did the better work on the inside when he slipped the jab, as evidenced by landing 30 or so more power punches.

Charlo outlanded him in 8/12 rounds in total punches. Derevy in 8/11 rounds (1 tie) in power punches.

Derevy is about as good as anyone today at slipping the jab and getting inside. We saw him do it very well vs GGG, and Jacobs and Charlo etc, and we know how good GGG's jab is. The only reason GGG was in the fight vs Derevy is because he landed a couple big shots in some of the rounds where he was getting outworked.

Charlo has a really good jab but I didn't see a dominant jab in that fight - it was solid and scored pretty often, but it hardly backed Derevy off at all, and most of them weren't overly hard and clean. Again that isn't dismissing Charlo's jab, it's just a testament to Derevy's skillset and his relentless nature. Derevy got through the jab and got to the inside almost every round.

On the inside, Derevy consistently did the better work. In the rounds where the inside work was even, or where Derevy didn't really get inside much, Charlo won. In the rounds where Charlo couldn't really land the jab, and Derevy could get inside, Derevy won.

Just not sure what some guys on here score or even seen when they look at fights. In some fights, it's all about the jab. In others, it's all about the power punches. I guess for most people on here it's just about scoring whatever they can to give their preferred fighter the W.

Why not just watch a fight and score each round for who the better man is, designated by who landed the better punches? Is that a crazy idea

Funny part was Derevyanchenko had been in the same PBC stable, yet the fight with Charlo had to happen hundred years later. Charlo had to let Sergy fight in shark-infested territory like Jacobs, Golovkin, while he fights scrubs.

Blowout? Nah, definitely not a blowout. But a 8-4 or 9-3 type of win for Charlo. Derevyanchenko had cases of winning vs Jacobs and GGG, but even his team admitted they lost vs Charlo.

But this definitely wasn't no one sided beat down. Derevyanchenko had his moments and fought well, Charlo was just landing the harder and more damaging shots for majority of the fight.

Didn't see that score or the part about the more damaging shots at all man. Sergei was doing the better work on the inside, and he got there often. Sergei had rounds where he outlanded Charlo by 5 punches (2 power punches), and then 7, 12 and 7 power punches. There are 4 clear rounds right there if one agrees with those numbers. Had 3 other rounds where he outlanded him by 3 power punches. Could easily get him to 6 rounds.

Not sure at all how one could say Jermall was landing the harder shots.

Yeah it is really odd how that fight happened after those 2, that's true. His resume besides Derevy is pretty thin. I think he is a talented guy and maybe the best chance to beat a lot of top guys because he is explosive so a better chance to maybe catch a guy as he is getting outboxed. But yeah it is sad how none of the top guys are really fighting each other now.

it was a good fight and Derevyencheko hurt Mall to the body

Mall was the clear cut winner though no Controversy like the GGG vs Derevyenchenko fight

I actually think Derevy did better score-wise vs Jermall, but better performance wise (maybe relative to expectations) vs GGG. GGG just got a bit fortunate in some rounds and getting the clear round/2 point edge with the KD. Then opening the cut in round 2

I mean if you are just going off punch stats, then you would have had Canelo/BJS tight as well?

I still have the fight on DVR so maybe I will re-watch this weekend or soon. Derevyanchenko was certainly doing good work, but Charlo hurt him on multiple occasions and his jab was certainly damaging his face. But I enjoyed the fight and it was a good one so I have no problem re-watching it.

I'll let you know my scorecard and thoughts if they changed at all on second watch.

Sounds good my friend. I think BJS was only in 1 or 2 of the first 8 rounds. I had it 7-1 Canelo. Could see 6-2.

I didn't really track the total punches in that fight but Canelo landed the better punches every round. And every time I saw BJS land a good shot or two, Canelo almost always followed right back with his own to wash it out.

If Saunders really landed the same amount as Canelo then I'd be surprised. Maybe he did but his shots were about half as effective as Canelo's on average then.
