My scoring and interpretation of that fight pretty much aligned with the punch stats - Charlo maybe landed a couple more punches per round on average (Compubox said by 40 punches overall, I don't think it was quite that many but not like I actually counted). And Derevy did the better work on the inside when he slipped the jab, as evidenced by landing 30 or so more power punches.
Charlo outlanded him in 8/12 rounds in total punches. Derevy in 8/11 rounds (1 tie) in power punches.
Derevy is about as good as anyone today at slipping the jab and getting inside. We saw him do it very well vs GGG, and Jacobs and Charlo etc, and we know how good GGG's jab is. The only reason GGG was in the fight vs Derevy is because he landed a couple big shots in some of the rounds where he was getting outworked.
Charlo has a really good jab but I didn't see a dominant jab in that fight - it was solid and scored pretty often, but it hardly backed Derevy off at all, and most of them weren't overly hard and clean. Again that isn't dismissing Charlo's jab, it's just a testament to Derevy's skillset and his relentless nature. Derevy got through the jab and got to the inside almost every round.
On the inside, Derevy consistently did the better work. In the rounds where the inside work was even, or where Derevy didn't really get inside much, Charlo won. In the rounds where Charlo couldn't really land the jab, and Derevy could get inside, Derevy won.
Just not sure what some guys on here score or even seen when they look at fights. In some fights, it's all about the jab. In others, it's all about the power punches. I guess for most people on here it's just about scoring whatever they can to give their preferred fighter the W.
Why not just watch a fight and score each round for who the better man is, designated by who landed the better punches? Is that a crazy idea
