I think he had a lot of natural ability but his mentality was not one of an elite athlete.

Sort of like Zab Judah just with different abilities but you know, he should have done better than he did with his gifts.

I think he had more natural athletic talent then boxing talent. I think his 'team', from bottom to top, were more interested in creating a product then creating a boxer so that's why Adrien had favorable matchmaking, the A side, getting coddled, getting swing rounds etc. I think you had a kid that was unchecked by his caretakers and surrounded by yes men go down a road of bad habits and self defeat.
