Was Adrien Broner Ever That Talented ?

You often hear people say Adrien Broner was a great talent who let it all go to waste or he could've been the next Floyd Mayweather JR but is that really true? Was he really that talented to begin with? Was his lack of work ethic the only reason why he didn't reach the level many had projected him to reach?

What little or big talent he may have had, it was definitely overwhelmed by his mental deficiencies.

What level do you think he could've reached? Could he have been at the level of Floyd or Pernell? Or more like a Mikey Garcia type?

He was and is very talented. But he was a f-ucking douchebag, and he talked up a game big enough that fans started holding him to a higher standard.

Example: he got a of sh-it for "cherry picking" when he moved up from 135 to 147 to challenge Malignaggi.

I remember asking at the time: "If Luke Campbell (a damn good 135 champ then) moved up two weight classes to fight Malignaggi, would it be called a cherry pick? No, because he wouldn't have a shot in the dark beating Paulie. People would be kissing his ass just for attempting it."

If you look at Broner's record, he's got wins over Allakhverdiev, Demarco, Malignaggi, Grandos... a very solid B+, A- level fighter. Really, I'd say he has about the exact same record in terms of quality of opponents beaten and faced as Robert Guerrero. Very similar.

He was talented (good size, speed, power, counter puncher, chin) but did not develop the necessary skillset or discipline to reach his full potential. He was so arrogant that he didnt think he NEEDED to go the extra mile to be great.

                No

He lost to Quintero & got a gift decision
He lost to PDL & got a gift decision

Then kept weight bullying midgets & getting overhyped before Maidana finally ****d him. Many had him to beat Maidana just because Alexander & Khan beat him but those with any knowledge knew a big beating was coming.

Old shot man Paulie took him 12 rounds and only lost by a few rounds

His philly shell & defence is all smoke and mirrors. His feet are slow. He holds his feet. He has a wide stance. He squares up. He has a low workrate. He is a tough SOB though, that's all I can give him credit for. His best win was DeMarco yonks ago.

Clearly has a personality disorder also.

People compared him too much with Jr. just because of his dooshbaggery personality and philly shell. That's probably where the comparisons can end. Broner was too offensive minded to be comparable. Too offensive minded too early and traded often. Jr. was not that. He was super defensive early on until he figured you out or felt comfortable to start letting hands go more often in the second half. While I think it made Broner more entertaining because of his offensive minded, it also allowed him to get hit way more than Jr. would of been comfortable with.

I honestly think Broner is more so a guy who came up at the right time with the perfect ******* persona to continue onwards with what people despised with Jr. His granite chin helped him for the most part and he was in entertaining fights usually. At the end of the day, he'll probably only be remembered for being a D-bag and wannabie Jr. persona.

That's a very fair point about moving up 2 weight classes
