this is the 16th woman in PR this year to be killed. it's a part of the culture. Don't forget Verdejo also had a really bad motorcycle accident a few years ago. Definitely got some brain damage from that.

The governor of PR declared a state of emergency about gender violence this week. Maybe it's the tough times, but it's happening in a way that is shocking the island's leaders

As of Sunday night, Verdejo's fighter page was no longer on the Top Rank website. A representative for Top Rank, reached Sunday night, referred to the statement the promotion released Saturday and had no further comment.

Damn this whole thing is madness. I also assume he must have some kind of brain damage. Still hope he rots in prison for the rest of his life though (assuming he's guilty).

It all comes out in the ring. After the news, I watched his loss to Lozada. I was struck by the privilege/entitlement he enjoyed. Judges were ready to screw over Lozada. The TR commentators were positive but kept talking about how frustrated TR was with him, that he was "not focused", and that TR decided they were going to give him dangerous, tough fights - sink or swim.

Felix always looked in great shape, but behind the scenes, there's probably been crazy, violent stuff going on for years. "not focused" is code for that.

His old trainer gave a candid interview aboyt him a couple of years ago. He talked about his lifestyle and the bad influemces around him. That got him fired

You can tell Verdejo had a weak personality...more of a follower. The fact that his wife's dad is an alleged drug lord may have put fear into Verdejo to make this all go away etc. It's possible he only married his wife after being told he HAD to marry her and kept seeing his childhood sweetheart that he ultimately killed. It's possible he was threatened to do what he did but in the end...he is ONE DUMB MFer for sure. Maybe he left half his brain on the road after the motorcycle accident?
