Fixed fights, ring size most important non fighter factor in boxing

I am so relieved that the Ruiz-Arreola fight will be over soon and we don't need to read another article about Ruiz conditioning or lack of it. He looks the same as in most fights I have seen with the exception of Joshua II when he was so fat he looked like he couldn't bend over to touch his knees. That fight was supposedly fought in a 22 foot ring. I don't know what the dimensions were for the first one at Madison Square Garden but it was probably not more than 20 feet. An 18 foot ring is 324 square feet vs. 484 square feet for a 22 foot ring. That is 50% more leg room. Was the real reason AJ lost weight before the rematch because he knew "fast Eddie" would negotiate a larger ring and he needed to train for a marathon and not a 100 yard dash? Did the Ruiz camp know that it was 22 feet and when did they know? Did it allow them enough time to train for those conditions?

Yeah, the ring size should be standardized. That huge ring in Saudi was an unfair advantage. Imagine if Ruiz's team had pushed for a 12 x 12 ring, Ruiz wins again.

Ruiz wouldn't have caught him in a 18 foot one either. Ruiz has fast hands but very slow feet. Lets not forget Joshua was beating him easily in the first fight too before getting caught.

The ring was 20 feet BTW. The 2 foot outside the ropes doesn't count.

The ring size has to be between 16 and 20 feet.

So reports of the Joshua/Ruiz rematch ring size being 22' x 22' were not true?? I obviously didn't measure it myself but that was the report.

It was 20 foot. Some people count the 2 foot outside the ropes, which is wrong that's not part of the fighting area.

He moved the ring after Tuesday's open workouts and it will be expanded to measure 22ft inside the ropes when it is rebuilt for Saturday's showpiece at the newly constructed Diriyah Arena.

No it was 22' x 22' INSIDE the ropes. It looked huge even with two big HW's in it.
