When i mean elite, i don't say JMM or a super fighter. I mean that someone who gets a title shot is never an average amateur dude with no history. Most of those guys fighting for belts won several championships like the Golden Gloves, State championships,etc..

For those 5 people who voted easy, why don't you go and capture a world title?

Mayorga was a pretty good fighter in his prime.A lot more tougher and inteligent than given credit for.

Plus he actually trained for a while altough smoking and drinking.

Monzon use to smkoe a lot too.Doesn't really mater if you train hard.

Imagine how hard it was in the 30's, 40's and 50's when there were less divisions, one belt in each and many more professional fighter. The gap between a true world class fighter and the average guy is tremendous. Its much easier to become a champion today, defend that championship, regain it or move up and win another than any other time in history. That said, its still no easy feat.
