The reason Ali is a contender for "Most Overrated" at all is because of the posts after yours that state "Ali was the greatest ever", etc. Ali was a great fighter, with a fluid grace and natural style that made him seem like he was in a dance rather than a fight. But Ali wasn't perfect either. Like Byrd, he didn't have a great deal of power, and in his early 30's, when he should've been in his prime, he began to have trouble going the distance because he was lazy.

Anyway, I don't think about Ali as being overrated because he's basically a legend, even almost a folk hero to some, so you pretty much have to ignore any statements regarding him.....the arguments just aren't worth it.

HE IS THE ONLY MAN TO KO GEORGE FOREMAN, Ali had everything speed power, agility, a chin, stamina, heart. Ali is the greatest fighter every tied with SRR all time and he is the graetest heavyweight ever period

I think this argument will come up more and more in this era of older boxers. There's virtually no contender under the age of 30 anymore. Yet in Ali's day it was considered a young man's game and 30 was over the hill. I always remember the commentator Jimmy Young (not the boxer) crying at the end of Zaire, incredulously: "... and he won the Heavyweight Championship of the World aged thirty-two!" like it was the most unbelievable thing he'd ever seen.

And this is why it's never a good idea to bring Ali into a discussion....there are too many people who believe he could've never lost.

And regarding the Foreman KO....George spent 7 and 1/2 rounds punching himself out so completely that my daughter could've KO'd the big guy. Yes, Ali won the fight, but you have to admit that Ali couldn't have gotten any luckier than he did, with Big George fighting the way he did. Take another look at Ali's record. You'll find that when he faced opponents with a good chin and decent skill, his TKO wins were either very late, or non-existant. It was only earlier in his career, when facing lesser skilled opponents, that he racked up a good KO/Win ratio.

Ali's most important asset later in his career was his ring smarts.

              sturm just a correction

foreman was up at 9. zack clayton would've let him continue. he was not ko'd. he walked back to his corner, defeated mentally.

I agree, Hasim Rahman is way overated.
He gets easy wins, Kali Meehan? I mean c'mon...
The fights he gets that are actual struggles he loses
He is a good fighter...But not as good as he's given credit for
