Comments Thread For: Chavez Sr. Does Not Believe Canelo Will Eclipse His Status in Mexico

Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. is widely regarded as the greatest boxer in the history of Mexico. Chavez retired in 2005 with a record of 107 wins, six defeats, two draws and 85 wins by knockout. Chavez was undefeated in 90 fights (89-0-1) when he suffered his first career defeat in 1994 against Frankie Randall.

Wishful thinking by the old feller. By the time it’s all said and done, Canelo will have so many more accomplishments, it will absolutely eclipse Chavez Sr. Plus, the generation of old geezers that revere him will be on the way out. Even up to this point Canelo’s outdoing Sr: he will be undisputed champ by the end of the year and has a resume chuck-full of arguably tougher opponents than Chavez Sr. ever defeated.

Sr is right in Mexico but here in the states the fans praises clenelos resume since the Mayweather ass whoopin. Shot Kirkland,L Smith, Chavez Jr,shot Kahn, Golovkin, weak Fielding, coward Jacobs, weak and shot Kovalev, weak C Smith, weak Yildrim and feather fist punching bag Saunders. Its awful and will get worse. Lemieux on deck.

Let me know when Canelo can beat a half of famer in his prime in the dominant fashion that Chavez did to Rosario or even Camacho. Or how about when Canelo can have an action packed fight against an elite fighter in his prime where he comes through in the championship rounds the way Chavez did vs Taylor.

There’s like 35 Mexican boxers between Chavez and Canelo on this list.

Debateable he already has. Canelo already has a few P4P top 10 fighters at the time he beat them and in multiple divisions. It's who you beat not how many, Chavez's resume has the most filler of any fighter literal ****ing bums.

Once he stepped up he struggled. Got gifts too. Reckon I already rate Canelo above Chavez. Chavez is well overrated.

Chavez was awarded with draw for the Whitaker fight and got lucky that Richard Steele stopped the fight against Taylor. Chavez Sr carried boxing after Tyson went to jail and was succeeded by ODLH. Chavez has a lot of good names on his resume but so does Canelo. Time will only tell if Canelo can supersede Sr, his career apparently has a lot left. I don't take away too much away from Canelo for the Floyd lost and he has had more than once the score cards in his favor.

No way Canelo is better than Olivares, Salvador Sanchez, Ricardo Lopez.

Only ****** casuals think beating Callum Smith and struggling with old GGG makes you being great.
