I side with boxing of course. But if a boxer with no MMA/kickboxing background fights in MMA, they too would look silly.

With that said Askren looked extra silly with his stance, punch technique, and footwork. Like at least McGregor looked okay in his technique. And so did Mir. But this was bad. Pretty he was handpicked because someone saw he probably had poor punch technique. He might be a good kicker but his punching was about as bad as mine when I first tried throwing punches with boxing gloves at 7 years old. Even then, I don’t remember looking that bad.

What were you setting your hopes on realistically with Ben? He admitted he was one of the worst strikers in MMA and his boxing experience is literally the 12 weeks he prepped for the fight.

In an open rules fight absolutely I'd pick Ben but if you limit him to his literal weakensses what should anyone have expected?

I feel as I read this thread a rapid drain of my IQ... that is where I draw the line... When I start grunting and reading Robbie's posts and they appear to make sense... Have to exit thread!

How can one draw conclusions on any sport based on a match under one set of rules? People are good at what they train to do, its a martial arts principle. This fight has nothing to show regarding the objective fighting ability of either athletic endevour... It was a boxing match. How silly can people be?

Ben Askren was strictly a wrestler. His record was 19-2 but would have been 0-21 if he was forced to stand and that's not an exaggeration. His loss proves absolutely nothing.

Yeah I think he said he was gonna finish Jorge this time. Last time Jorge was stopped was 2008 though. He might be able to pull it off if he straight up chokes him out (Jorge wont tap because of the animosity between them) or if he lands enough unanswered shots on the ground that the ref steps in, but I wouldnt count on it. Cant see him stopping Jorge on the feet, hes got some power but hes too slow and basic. And yeah you're right Usman gets caught a fair bit on the feet and he doesnt react well at all when it happens.

That whole card is pretty stacked, even the womens fights are kind of interesting and high level which is a rarity.

ben askren is literally the worst striker ever lol.

but whatever when it comes to giving fans what they wanna see the UFC is leaps and bounds above boxing.

boxing is the only sport where mofos say a 27-0 fighter isn't ready for a title shot (ennis) lol.

there is no coddling in the UFC. there are no tune ups. the best face the best constantly. over and over again

you will never see a spence/crawford situation over there because those two would be on their 3rd fight by now.

boxing is so trash now these dinosaur legends can return and sell PPV's.

im a lifelong boxing fan but this sport is a steaming pile of sht right now.

all this circus/youtube sht is now the norm. get used to it. this is the future.

It is laughable that retired Mayweather was in much better condition than McGregor.

                  MMA sux.

Isnt it kind of laughable that McGregor lasted almost 30 minutes in a pure boxing match without ever going off his feet, and landed 100+ punches of his own. Or that Mir just went 6 rounds with Cunningham never once in danger and the final punch stats were 67 vs 62?

                    • MMA will last because it entertains people who are only looking for action. Doesn't matter that it's sloppy AF.
