How many great wins does Canelo have?

The scoring in the Cotto Canelo fight was too wide in favor of Canelo. The fight was closer than the scores showed.

Zero according to those who at some point claimed he was ducking Trout, Lara, GGG, Jacobs, Callum Smith, since they have plenty of excuses to explain why he won those fights. The reality is, Canelo has the best resume of any active fighter not named Pacquiao.

Zero. Questionable decisions against good fighters aren't great wins. Great wins are dominating wins against great fighters which Canelo has never done.

How many current fighters have dominating wins against great fighters though? I think it’s fair to say that great fighters don’t get dominated period because if they did then everyone would say they weren’t great to begin with.

Does anyone rate Crawford, Charlo or Andrade #1 p4p? For Canelo to be fighting someone of Yildrims level is borderline criminal.

It was a mandatory that he decided to squeeze in 10 weeks before Cinco De Mayo. And he had just fought a few months prior to that. Would it be better for him to only fight 1-2 times per year like everyone else?

Lost to Lara & Trout but was gifted the decision on both occasions.

Cotto was past his prime & a shell of himself.

Kovalev was past his prime & weight drained. Heck, the same Kovalev almost got knocked out by an inexperienced bum.

Canelo beat Austin Trout clean and Trout himself has acknowledged this.

I had the Lara fight 115-113 for Lara but it wasn’t a robbery.

Cotto was past his best but certainly not washed up by that point.

Kovalev was a heavily calculated risk that paid off. Decent win but nothing to go crazy about.

To be fair, Canelo also has the ability to fight whoever he wants. That’s not taking anything away from him either. It’s just a fact

It's really hard to judge who's great until after the era is gone, but.. I'd say:

Cotto was a very good win. Cotto was only 35, and yes smaller. But weight wasn't what made the fight stand out, it was the utter dominating show that Canelo put on.
Golovkin - no matter how you think the 2 fights went and what you think the scores should be, Canelo and G are very evenly matched and produced 2 technical masterpieces. In the same way, no matter what people thought about Hagler-Leonard, the fact that their names are mentioned together are huge boost.
Callum Smith - I rated Callum quite high, in his prime, WBSS winner. It was very impressive seeing how easily Canelo dismantled him.

Apart from the controversial victories against GGG, he's yet to beat any great boxer (Kovalev doesn't count).

Also, two questionable decisions on his resume apart from GGG.

Are we defining “great” by resume? Or are we talking about how difficult everything thought the opponent would be at the time?

Not even a big Canelo fan but the Callum Smith win is being discredited in hindsight. He went up to 168 and beat #1. That's pretty great.
