GBP didn't even made money in that fight. They were paid $1 million flat. Not even enough
to cover costs of press conferences and weigh-in festivities.
Also, don't forget Floyd's greed, not to mention his hate for Dela Hoya's GBP.
Schaefer's only consolation was to secure undercard spots for his fighters.
its called the long game....stop being so narrow minded........get canelo exposure on floyd undercards....build relationship with haymon....get canelo the floyd fight...and boom...career takes off with exposure.....yes canelo would have become a star without it likely....but it helped immensely and accelerated it...i know it pains some to give schaeffer or haymon credit for ANYTHING....building the relationship with the guy that built floyds career was a smart move and if oscar hadnt ruined everything it could have probably continued

schaeffer knew canelo wasnt beating floyd...so why put canelo in a fight he couldnt win? because he knew what it meant....it was obvious

Here is why we don't like Canelo Alvarez. These are facts and logical reasons, not hate or insecurity.

            1. CONTROVERSIAL WINS AND REFUSING REMATCHES. There is nothing wrong with a controversial win. However, when you beat an opponent controversially, the grown up thing to do is to give that man a rematch. Floyd did it with JLC and Maidana. Ward did it with Kovalev. However, Canelo did not do it with Trout, Lara, GGG. Not only did he refuse to give them rematches, he talked trash and acted like he clearly won all those fights when he didn't. This is not how a true champion behaves. He made fun of Lara's defensive first style, but then reinvented himself to become a defensive/pot shotting/"boring" fighter. This is the ultimate proof he knows he lost to Lara if you ask me. Look, I'm not saying he lost to those three. But he did not clearly win. A real champ runs it back.

            2. CORRUPTION. Every tough Canelo Alvarez fight seems to have a corrupt scorecard. Stanely Christodulu 118-110 over Trout. CJ Ross 114-114 with Mayweather. Levi Martinez 117-111 over Lara. Adelaide Byrd 118-110 GGG. When you receive a scorecard that is so out of touch with the reality, the only logical conclusion is CORRUPTION. And when you know for a fact 1 judge is biased, how do you know the other judges aren't? Now we can't prove that Team Canelo and Golden Boy are paying off judges or friends with these judges, but when **** like this happens FOUR TIMES, I cannot believe that it is a coincidence.

            3. FAILED DRUG TESTS. I really do not need to explain this one.

            4. AVOIDING THE BEST COMPETITION. This is the controversial, the ones the Canelo fans get the most defensive about, one because Canelo fans always brag about his "resume." What you conveniently ignore is that CANELO WORKS FOR HIMSELF. That means he is his own boss and gets to pick whoever he fights. Nobody opponent will ever say no to a fair Canelo Alvarez fight. All other fighters work for promoters and network. One easy deflection tactic you use is "Bud Crawford's resume is trash" or "why hasn't Andrade fought anyone." Canelo gets held to a higher standard because HE RUNS THE SPORT OF BOXING. Point blank period. Whoever Canelo wants to fight, the networks and promoters will bend over backwards to make this happen. This is not true for any other fighter in the sport. We know that he could have fought Demetrius Andrade back when he was a champion at 154. Could have fought Jermall Charlo for his belt at 154. Or Jermell Charlo. But instead he chose to fight Amir Khan and Liam Smith. Then those guys chased him to 160 and Canelo still refused to fight them.

            5. CONTROVERSIAL WINS DO NOT MAKE A RESUME GREAT. This is more a problem with Canelo's fans. Not Canelo himself. His fans talk up Canelo's resume like it's by far the best thing in the world. But here's the thing. Even though Canelo has fought the best comp, controversial wins don't help your resume. There is still a large percentage of the boxing public that is convinced that he didn't beat Trout, Lara, and GGG. OF course he lost to Floyd. Your resume can't be as good as you say it is if you haven't truly proven that you are better than those four.

            6. LIES DESIGNED TO TRICK CASUAL FANS. One of the things that Canelo is so great at, that nobody else does in the sport, is the way he cherrypicks, lies and manipulates things into making the casual fans THINK that he's fighting the toughest opponents, or that he's just doing what the sanctioning bodies forced him to. One example is that he desperately wanted to fight Kovalev. How do we know he was so desperate? When is the last time you saw anyone turn down a Canelo fight but Canelo continued to chase him? That was Kovalev. And we know why. Why would you chase Kovalev when he wasn't even close to peak form or the top guy at 175? Since casuals would think he beat the same prime Krusher that Ward beat, but the reality is he beat a washed up, alcoholic version of that guy. He did the same thing at 160. He didn't want to fight his mandatory Charlo, so he goes to WBC and asks him to create a special belt, called the franchise champion, to fool people into thinking that he was still the champ and wasn't avoiding his mandatory. One last thing. Let's look at the recent fight with Yildirim. One common lie I hear repeated on this board was that the WBC mandated that he fight Yildirim. That's not all true. Mauricio Suleman admitted in his own words, after the WBC ordered the fight with Yildirim, that it was actually TEAM CANELO who went to the WBC and told them to order that fight. That way, they could make it look like this wasn't a cherrypick and he as just doing what the WBC say he need to do. But this as all a big lie.

            7. UNFAIRLY TAKING ADVANTAGE OF OPPONENTS. To be fair, Manny and Floyd did this one. But nobody does it as bad as Canelo Alvarez. From the short fight camps, to the catchweight, to the rehydration clauses, fighting in Texas with corrupt judges like Levi Martinez. Every Canelo Alvarez fight contract is designed to put his opponent at the most unfair advantage possible and ensure that Canelo Alvarez wins

There are many more reasons we don't like him, but these are the big ones. To be CLEAR. I have no problems with you being a fan of him, and I am happy to debate this with anyone. These are just the reasons I do not like him, and many other fans do not like him, and this is not hate but truth.

By that do you mean he comes into this country works hard and makes as much as he can, while others (Charlo, Andrade, Spence, Crawford) want to be lazy, do as little as possible in hopes of getting that lotto, while crying racism and that the system isn't working for them?

Then yes, that's a good analogy.

That's a pretty bold and nasty accusation. Have I ever once called you racist for all the hate you push on Charlo, Andrade, and Crawford, the fighters I support? Maybe some it's obvious when you never see them say a positive thing EVER about any African American fight but I didn't think you were one of them.

you do realize that in point 4 you say he avoids the best comp and in point 5 you say "even though he has fought the best comp, controversial wins dont help your resume"

                    LOL

thats the problem with some of you clowns.....when a guy, by age 30, has traversed from 147-175 lbs he simply cant fight every credible threat in every division and cant fight top flight comp every time out......

Point 4 was that he avoided the best competition that wanted to fight him and earned the right to fight him. Point 5 is that while he has fought better competition than other guys in the sport, he did not beat them convincingly. Which doesn't help your resume.
