I kind of agree, but if ortiz took this fight lightly he could get out-boxed.

Ortiz has called out other champs like Thurman, Garcia, Spence a number of times yet for whatever reason none of them has accepted his challenge. Let’s be honest here, everyone @ 147 lbs knows they’re in for a long night w/t Vergil if they fight him. Anyhow, sooner rather than later Vergil will get a mandatory shot @ one of the belts and when he does you’ll see why I say that he’ll go down as an ATG, this kid is a special talent just watch.
When could Spence have realistically fought Ortiz?

Should he have fought Ortiz instead of unifying belts with Porter?

Should he have fought Ortiz instead of his far more accomlished mandatory challenger in Danny Garcia?

Should he fight Ortiz now instead unifying belts with Ugas?

      Gimme a break man!

Ellis should've gotten the opportunity to fight Vergil first! I still haven't seen anything about Hooker signing a deal w/ GBP. If you have a link, please post it!

Vergil Ortiz Doesn't Think He Can Beat Spence Now, 'But Maybe In A Year'

          April 22, 2020

“As of right now, you know what? I would give anyone in the 147 division a hard fight,” Ortiz said. “I don’t care who it is. As far as me thinking that I can beat him right now, I don’t think so. But maybe in a year. I’m not gonna rush myself, like these other fighters. I’m not gonna call someone out that, you know, just for clout or anything like that. You know, I genuinely think that I can beat some of these guys.”

Vergil Ortiz Jr. is a confident, talented contender who has knocked out each of his 15 pro opponents. Even Ortiz recognizes, though, that he’s not quite ready to beat Errol Spence Jr. just yet. The 22-year-old Ortiz honestly acknowledged during a recent interview on SiriusXM’s “Ak And Barak Show” that he feels he is about a year away from being able to knock off the unbeaten IBF/WBC welterweight champion.

That was less than a year ago!

Ortiz is a -1800 favorite. This is not really a "step up". He's supposed to beat Hooker, most likely brutally.

On June 2020 Vergil clearly states he’s ready and can stop Errol now. Anyhow, The kid ain’t ducking anyone if any of the top PBC welters where offered to him he take the fight in a second, I admire that from him the only other youngster willing to take on the Top Dawgs is Teófimo everyone else is just clout chasing i.e Haney, Garcia etc...

The odds tell you all you need to know about Vergil’s talent. When a 22 yrs old kid is as heavily favorite against a former champ in Hooker that tells you this kid is good real good...

I agree that he's talented and I see him as champ at 147 at some point, but the odds also reflect that Hooker is not seen as a real threat. Yeah he's a champ, but who did he beat? But it's not a fight I'm mad at.

So from April to June, he got that much better? Lol! He wasn't ready, and he admitted it! Can't change history. However, if he wins, and Oscar allows it, a fight between him and Errol would probably be bigger, especially in Dallas, than a fight between him and Crawford! Jerry Jones will be all over it!

At this stage in his career I think it's unlikely that Ortiz will gave taken hooker lightly. Getting outboxed us still a possibility but remains to be seen if hooker can actually do it. Possible but, again, unlikely.

                      Thanks.
