Gary Russell Jr. is set for his annual title defense. The longest active-reigning male titlist in the sport today is set to next face Rey Vargas (34-0, 22KOs), with the two sides avoiding a purse bid hearing for their ordered WBC featherweight title fight. News of the matchup being finalized was revealed by the WBC, though the fight currently remains without a date or location.

Annual defence lol classic. In any event it’s a good matchup and I’m looking forward to it. I’m guessing this one will be on showtime rather than FOX unfortunately

Gary throws shoeshine punches and Vargas is a runner. Gonna be a terrible fight.

13 months outta the ring & no date for the next fight yet. GRJ's career is so underwhelming for the talent he has. Funny thing is Rey ain't fought in 19 months.

I ain't mad at this fight doe. Rey is a top 3 guy GRJ will have fought & might be the best guy he's beaten if he wins or 2nd best worst case.

That said I'd rather be watching GRJ vs Devin or Tank or probably 4 or 5 other guys.
