Around the late 90s I'd have given Tua a great chance because Tyson wasn't anywhere near his peak, Tua was very heavy handed and aggressive, he has a rock solid chin and wouldn't be intimidated by Mike who does his best work on the front foot with an opponent basically running from him.

Too always had power but it was mainly his left hook. He had a hell of a chin though. Tyson was more versatile but don't know if he could had mentally finish a hard fight when the other guy is not going down. Tyson mainly did not as good with tall fighters so with Tua being his size who knows.

I remember this thread was done in the history section. I don't see the answer to this being complicated if one thinks it through, and assumes both fighters are at their best, or near their best...

Tyson studied and had a whole methodology to his approach. He had fast feet, at his best he had head movement, and he could hit with both hands for the KO. Tua, was essentially one handed fighter, with little reach, slow feet, and no mobility. Certainly taking a punch could be demoralizing, but all Tyson would have to do is stay away from Tua's left side. What could Tua do to Tyson? compared to what Tyson could do to Tua?

Gotta think Tyson would win a decision cause he's just overall a level above.

Agreed. I don't want to belittle any professional fighter, but Tua never really did anything against top level comp, except lose... Rahman outboxed him (despite the judges) , Lewis didn't belong in the same ring with him, Iebuchi beat him. I think Tua capitolized on a weak era more than being a real threat to someone as good as Tyson.

Tuas chin was too good. I think he would weather the early storm & then take Tyson out mid to late.

He knocked out Rahman but even that was controversial

Mike Tyson can’t fight backing up.

Tua would have backed him up and knocked him out.

He was in his prime then and Tyson wasn’t.

its true... I believe it was very controversial and that Rahman showed that a decent boxer at a relatively low grade is a handful for Tua. Of course Chris Byrd outboxed Tua as well...
