most top fighters are doign a 1-2 fight a year now

this is a "squeeze in" fight for canelo, dude just fought last year and fought again in a few months. This is like his fielding fight. He will be able to fight atleast 3 times this year which is more than any of the other top guys are doing. he did a title defense just 9 weeks after a 12 round fight. nobody else at the top level is doing that.

Im not a Canelo fan but I don’t think he can be criticised when he’s taking 3 fights in the space of 6 months and one of them is his mandatory, which just happens to be a crappy one but that’s on the WBC.

if he was fighting once or twice a year, I’d fully agree. But from December until this coming May, he’ll have had two unification bouts and got a mandatory out the way.

no fighter in boxing is doing that right now.

I think for you this thread is exactly about Crawford. Since that is who Canelo is displacing as P4P #1 on a lot of lists.

And I seriously doubt you'll ever come down hard on Bud. Because if you applied the same standards to him that you do to Alvarez you'd be all over him by now, since Crawford falls much shorter of meeting them.

You’ve got dumb posters saying Canelo “should’ve rematched Lara, Trout.” Canelo proved himself in unification with Trout. These guys won’t even acknowledge the knockdown. They also won’t acknowledge that Lara was less effective with Canelo than the Angulo fight and got clipped twice on the canvas. Canelo proved to be the aggressor and body scorer for the guy who challenged at the podium but preferred Olympic style running... Canelo is the HNIC!

Wow, so now we just act like it's acceptable for a guy to win a close competitive fight that many thought could have gone the other way and not rematch him? There really is no integrity left in the sport of boxing. If Bud did that you can damn well right be sure I'd be made and say we need a rematch. Pathetic how low the fanboys in this sport will go just to prop up their guy. I won't stand for the idea that it's acceptable not to rematch a guy you arguably lost to.

This is an oxymoron. “Box office” refers to ticket selling. How many fighters during the pandemic had no crowds?

The circumstance in that Canelo had to defend his WBC with Yildirim is not exclusively a “stay busy fight.” There are many fighters who are not Champions and need stay busy fights for activity

You all act like this is some sort of unfair treatment, y'all need to cut that bull**** out. This thread is called "why is Canelo taking heat." Winning close disputed decisions and not giving the rematch WILL INSURE THAT YOU TAKE HEAT. Point blank Period. This goes for every fighter, especially if you're at the top of the sport raking in tens of millions.

Not to mention all the other **** he's done, but not giving a rematch will get any fighter heat. Remember all the **** they gave Ward after the first Kovalev fight? The "heat" he dealt with was a million times worse than anything Canelo has dealt with in his entire career, and Ward still gave him the rematch!

A MW/SMW beating Kovalev in their 1st fight at LHW is a good win. Period.
The Ward fight to the Yarde fight were three years apart. And as a former active alcoholic myself, three years is a ****ing eternity on your body when you're drinking.

In this instance I mean big fight. I know there is a pandemic going on and fighters aren’t selling out arenas. I’m saying every fight should be a big fight, especially with the amount of money Canelo is getting paid per fight.

K2 didn’t agree with what GBP was offering. Lol. Hence why it was heading to purse bid. GBP didn’t care that K2 had 2 belts. Lorffler and Herman Brothers wanted close to 50/50 with Alvarez. GBP wasn’t going to let Loeffler take advantage of star power PPV revenue. Comparing a WBC mando promised to Yildirim and comparing that to Canelo vs GGG 2016 unification for splits is the reason why Canelo haters have limited comprehension for facts

Went to challenge himself against a weight drained junior IIRC.
