yeah 89-0 is padded but he eventually fought the best. Mexican fighters start early so you cant just throw him in with monsters.Comment

Chavez didnt lose until he was 32 years old, with over 90 fights under his belt.
It is well known that fighters at the lower weights burn out faster than the heavier fighters. Consider that and note that Chavez worked and trained his ass off during the first 13 years of his carreer without a loss. He threw alot of punches, took alot of punches, and never went down or lost.
He was steadily in decline by 93 when Whitaker beat him. They were within bounds of eachother in 87-89 but I highly doubt team Whitaker was willing to put their boy in with Chavez in those years.Comment

The thing is alot of those fights were in just a month or 2 spans...
He was fighting every 2 months or so to stay in shape and mentally ready to fight....
I know not all 89 were there to put up a fight, but think of it as live ammunition in the Army Training....
Instead of constant sparring to stay in shape and stay busy while waiting for a fight... Why not make money, stay ready, and fight for real instead of just waiting around for months upon months to fight?
I mean if you look at boxrec... He fought Oct. 9th of 89. and fought on the 27th of the same month....Comment

Chavez fought many tomato cans but he also did fight and beat world class opposition too. Even if he never even fought any world class fighters 89-0 is still nothing to scoff at, Chavez was badass and an atg.Comment
