it would be nice if today's fighters stayed that busy...tomato can opponents or not...89 wins is a nice way of not jus self-promoting, but promotion of the sport in generalComment

and since $$$ is the millenium motivator for anything these days,
more fights, equal more money.
But no, some of todays fighters want it all for nothing.
Chavez laid the blueprint for how to keep your name out there, he was always fighting.
Its up to todays fighters to take that torch and carry it.
I don't think anyone will ever fight as often, again.Comment

By his 44th professional bout he fought for the world title and rarely faced any "bums" after that aside from the occasional tune-up in between title defenses.
I don't think he had any notable amateur career which is why he spent his early career fighting nobodies.Comment

I love Chavez but they actually say he had a loss on his record kind of early on because of a DQ but it got taken from his record and changed to a win. Also its debatable whether he got lucky with Steeles call in the Taylor fight or if he deserved the knockout win, and also the draw against Whitaker was total bull****. So yeah he really shouldnt have been undefeated for so long. Either way I take nothing away from the man, he was a great fighter. Mexico's finest.Comment
