Who will you be rooting for: Mayweather or Marquez?

Which part is the disgrace?


The skills?
The marketability?
The size?

I have heard people complain about the "size mismatch". I guess I don't see it. I see in Floyd a guy who is one division bigger than Marquez. That is underscored by the fact that they fought four pounds apart for FIVE YEARS (JMM @ FW from '95-'06; FMJ @ SFW from '96-01). When I look at them next to each other, Floyd looks a little bigger to me.

My guess is that marquez will be about 146-148 on fight night, and Floyd will be 148-150. I dunno if I'd call that some massive mismatch.



Actually, I think a two-year layoff is a bigger disadvantage than moving up one division. Marquez should beat a rusty Mayweather.

I like Marquez quite a bit but, often, I find myself just rooting for which win would mean more for the sport. I don't always try and emotionally invest myself in the outcome to the point where I'm really, truly, rooting for one guy. I'm not saying it never happens but, in Marquez-Mayweather, I just want to see a good fight.

That said, I don't think nice guy Marquez, who speaks Spanish, can really fire up boxing fans the way Mayweather will. I mean, Floyd speaking English as his first language does matter when it comes to interviews and such in places like the US, Canada, the UK - and it's all about marketability. I want the spokesmen for the sport, good or bad, back in action and selling tickets. It's just healthy.

and to be fair to Mayweather, DLH's & Hattons Biggest PPV's we against Mayweather.....De La Hoya has fought many times on PPV throughout his career and NEVER did the #'s that he did with Mayweather on the promotion

and Hatton who was UNDEFEATED and had an entire country behind him never fought on PPV until he fought Mayweather...

Pacquiao vs the same Opponents Mayweather fought didnt put up the same PPV numbers.....

So, Roy Jones was a legitimate HW? Or CW, even? Vinny Paz was a legitimate SMW? You have to take a bit of time to learn the sport. Floyd fought 85% of his career at JWW and below.
