This fight always reminds me of just HOW BIG of a Pacman nutcleanser Larry Merchant really is.

He thought so certainly that Manny would come out blazing for the final round, that he made a claim of, "I have this fight even, 6 to 5, Manny getting an extra point for the knockdown. Whoever wins the final round wins the fight."

Then.. Marquez goes out and has his second best round of the fight, wins that round fairly clearly and Larry jst stumbles out of admitting that Manny should have lost the fight on his scorecard.

i remember larry writing in ring magazine back in 2001 to explain why he did.

in the end larry ended up looking like a genius.



on the other hand max who would answer fan emails for espn back in 2002 said , "pacquiao was nothing special."

He did, in many ways. But, the guy he thought was great at that time, really hadn't proven it. It's more dumbluck then anything else. He just liked his fighting style.

But, good for him. Dumbluck, at the end of the day, still means you have luck. And at times, Larry does know exactly what he's talking about.

There's definitely a strong case to be made for it. Thats as dominated as I've ever seen Pac.

But what stuck out to me watching that fight again was round 6's scoring.

Round 6 was a very dominant round for JMM, not as much as 8, but very close and after the round HBO showed 2 of the 3 judges giving it to Pac.

Bizarre.

Go back and watch round 6 and see if there is any way Pac won that round.

yea i noticed that too. it made no sense whatsoever. clear round to jmm. judges have no ****ing clue how to score fights and its painfully obvious. whenever someone says "well the official judges says he won" i just laugh cause these "official" judges are some of the most ******ed people on the planet and most should be euthanized.

Yes I noticed that. It was ****ed up really. That was a JMM round clear as day.

You either have to get a knockdown or beat on a guy not throwing back to get a 10-8 round to me.

And really, 2 judges gave the 6th to Manny? Wow...
