  • Donaire Ugly But Effective In Outlasting Concepcion

By Jake Donovan - It was hardly a welcome return to the super flyweight division, but in the end, recently vacated flyweight titlist Nonito Donaire found a way to turn back the challenge of Panamaniam trialhorse Rafael Concepcion. Overcoming an injured hand and a considerable weight difference, Donaire emerged with a clear decision win in the main event at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Donaire came in at the super flyweight limit of 115 lb; Concepcion was considerably over at 119.5 lb, resulting in a 20% forfeiture of his $65,000 payday.

As expected, Donaire gained control very early in the fight. Precision punching is always the key to his success, though it was effective body shots that seemed to get the best of the fleshy Concepcion in the opening round.

Despite his early success, the advice from Donaire’s corner was to offer more jabs. It wasn’t immediately evident in the second, as Donaire was more comfortable fighting at a measured pace, allowing for left hooks and right hands to land upstairs.

He should’ve listened to his corner, because his night never got any easier.

Concepcion charged forward late in the round, landing two right hands along the ropes that momentarily hurt Donaire, as did a left hook a few moments later. Donaire recovered well, though to the tune of being the first round he’s lost all year. [details]

    Fool!

you are an idiot deserving nothing less but an approval not by thumb but by the middle finger! Donaire who kills himself to be a gentleman and meet the weight limit shows you and ugly performance??? If that was ugly, what in hell do you call Concepcion??? even after cheating, he fails to steal the big "W".

some things i want to point on this fight for
      Nonito Donaire.

      1. he can handle pressure fighters
      2. he has the stamina to box for 12 rounds.
      3. a good chin, knowing that conception has power and may come at super bantam weight at fight night.

Cong**** to Donaire and Millegen . 2 bad bernabe is on a blood rush that he didnt heared the bell rang.

            Arce is utter ****.

            Montiel would give Donaire trouble.

I excuse donaire for not being able to knock out concepcion cause he was basically fighting a super bantam weight and to top it all off he hurt his hand. But I do gotta say donaire fought a terrible fight. He kept bringing down his guard, he never figured out how to stop concepcion's jab that landed all night long and now everyone knows how easily he can be hit with straight right hands. The donaire that fought martinez and vic didn't show up. Anyone can argue this but after concepcion landed that big hook in the second round (I think) that's when donaire got on his bycicle and it became a marathon. Notice how he was the aggressor in the first round, I think he felt the power and knew he was in for a long night. I scored the fight on donaire's favor by three points but damn his sloppy defense was exposed. I give him credit for fighting a bigger man but I was very disappointed with his performance.

doanire's performance is not bad at all....far from ugly.
it is his first foray in the heavier div.....
he fought a heavy guy who even faked being "weigh-drained" to throw him off in his fyt plan.
his defensive flaws surfaced...it can be corrected along the way.
good thing he's got the chin somehow, and stamina not to buckle in the late rounds.
                  good overall performance....
i wonder how true and how serious is his "injured hand"...
it happened to him not just once or twice....that's bad!

Arce would be easy and Donaire would definitely win by KO

Montiel is stiff as a stick and slow....Donaire can handle him by late round KO
