one boricua told me before that miguel can use calderon as a sparring partner but i dont think its a good idea. calderon is too small and he might get badly hurt in sparring

Cotto May Use Calderon To Emulate Pacquiao

I think it's a pretty good idea so that way he can go ajusting to the speed & constant movement he will need to beat PAC, cuz ain't gonna just stand there & allow himself to get rapped. So I'm glad cotto will train hard for this fight just hope PAC does also.

good choice for cotto. this will help him deal with that south paw quick movement. this will be a great fight. cotto can take a punch and pac can't hit harder than clottey and margacheato with or without the concrete wraps. cotto wins in 7.

Bad idea IMO, Calderon is a lot smaller than Pacquiao, yes speed and movement wise it is good but I can't say it is a good idea cause Pacquiao is even a lot bigger than Calderon... plus from what I have seen of Calderon his style isn't much like Pacquiao... just because he is fast and has good movement doesn't mean he is a great sparring partner.
I aint saying he shouldn't spar with Calderon, just what I mean is its a good idea to have a few other sparring partners too... and I mean good ones.

its a good thing because this is dealing with the positioning of the south paw stance and pacs quick south paw movement.forget the calderon is not bigger than pac situation. this is about positioning and movement. i'm sure cotto will have someone in camp that can hit hard so he'll be ready

Ivan Calderon is a good preparation sparring partner for Cotto..

Besides most people don't believe the Pacman will stay infront of Cotto or press Cotto...angles and boxing is what a pure boxer like Calderon will help prepare Cotto for when he faces Manny. I'm sure boxing is a gameplan of Roach because they have to be prepared for a Cotto that cuts off the ring and pursues Manny relentlessly. Calderon will make Cotto sweat his ass off in the ring to keep up with his ass.Originally posted by xpsm24 View PostThis is a very good choice for cotto. For all of u ignorant and dumb readers, obviously hes not picking Calderon for power, hes picking this guy for speed. He is one o the fastest fighters out there if not maybe even the fastest, taking into consideration his weight. Very good choice for Cotto because not even mosley could catch this guy when he was out here for the De la hoya vs Mayweather fight when they had a couple rounds of fun!!

Regarding the worries of Calderon being hurt, remember that they will be more focused on timing(JAB), counter punching, cutting of ring and footwork, not necessary body punching because that's were Calderon cn get seriously hurt because he will be using his head protective gear.
Regarding the worries of emulating the power and attack from Pacquiao, remember people that Boxers usually have at least 3 or 4 sparring partners in training camp to emulate the different styles, power and speed that his opponent might bring to the ring adn i'm sure that Cotto will have some good sparring partners.
