If you read my message, I never mentioned anything about the belts. Even though I think Cotto should still put it up since he practically got all his demands in already.
And if Cotto loses, can he still walk around saying that he's the WW Champ? Like I said, that's like claiming ownership over a burger using a receipt when someone else already ate it.
To be fair that happens quite frequently when you have fighters from different divisions. Darchynian is still champion after his loss and so is Urango, to name just two from the last few weeks. Either way Cotto has been very clear that he will simply vacate the title. He gives as much credence to that trinket as most fans do. Titles are more important to up and coming fighters who need to make a name for themselves, when there are unifications, and when you are able to defend one title against all comers for a long period of time, ala Hopkins for example. In this case it is important for Pac for historic reasons. But I think we can all agree that titles are a necessary but insufficient factor in deciding who the best are.

**** this fight and let Cotto give Clottey a rematch to erase the doubts it was a gift decision to Cotto.
If you think this is too much drama and bull**** how did you describe the Pac/Hatton negotiations. Compared to that this has been smooth sailing. Not only that but everybody knows that negotiations between Mayweather and Pac would have more twists and turns than a spanish telenovela, and would most probably last longer than the most successful ones. Give it up! This fight is happening and that is a good thing.

Cotto deserves the shot for not retiring and fighting the top guys in his division.

"It will be very hard for me to come down in weight and it may affect my stamina and punch resistance but I really want the money from this fight..."

Hes not gonna say that. Hes not gonna show weakness to the world even if it is a concern.

          THINK.

I expect Cotto to be honest to himself. And he is, i don't think he'll risk his health if he knows he can't be affective at that weight. His weigh in most of the time is close to 145lbs and he said so himself that it is the usual weight of 145lbs that he goes down to for the weigh in. Why would i doubt him. You honestly think that it will make a huge difference from 146lbs to 145lbs. BUt it is quite clear that Manny and his camp knows that it is in their best interest to keep Manny no more than 145lbs.

Manny came in at 147 in at least 1 of his last 2 fights last time I checked.

I will agree that in theory, and I can see why making Cotto come to 145 would be in Mannys best interest.

In truth, I dont really think the one or two pounds will make much difference.....and if no one else, including yourself, thinks the same and if its not gonna make a diference why would he change the weightclass?????

It just takes away the credability of Manny having the belt if he wins.

Manny came in at 143 against DLH and 138 against Hatton on weigh in.
He came in at 148 on fight night on both fights. Just to let you know.
You see, he is barely a lightweight. he cant come in at fight night more than 148 b.c that's the limit of his fighting weight. Most of the time, fighters including Manny and Cotto would add 10-12 lbs after weigh in. Manny was doing that in lower weights but cannot do it this time b.c of his bodies limit

Cotto needs to dump the WBO belt in the garbage can.

Its never a bad thign when the two best guys in boxing fight each other, it should happen at least once each year, if not its a major disappointment. i thought it would be pacquiao and hatton, but it looks more like cotto and pacquiao will be this years "Wrestlemania" for boxing

And it was bull**** every time it happened. Just because a bad precedent has been set, that doesn't mean everyone else has to follow it. And it only happened because the title holder agreed to put his title on the line. There have also been catchweight fights where a title holder chose not to put his title on the line, and they were non-title fights. It would be completely unprecedented if the WBO tried to force someone to put their title on the line in a catchweight bout.
