He better take this fight. $1.5 mil is enough. If he beats Pavlik, which I think he will, more money will be coming.

But I understand the money dispute.
but what needs to happen is Goosen needs come out his own pocket and make up the difference, and make the investment that if Williams wins this fight.
In the rematch They will force the 60/40 on Pavlik in which HBO would obvious pay more money for the rematch or Try and lure Hopkins or Dawson down to 164-165 for a big fight.
Or Maybe Dan and Al Haymon can convince Shane to Move up to middle weight to win a title in his 5th weight class.

Anyway it goes the fight needs to happen.
Williams is ******ed if he does not force his camp to make the fight. i do not see any other decent name title holder lining up 1.5mil for a fight with Williams. The guys at 147lbs have already proven they don't need Williams to make money. PAC vs Cotto, JMM vs FMJpossibly Mosley vs Berto or Clottey...Williams needs to pick one weight class and dominate it. A fight with Pavlik is risky because he is taking on an extremly power puncher at 16olbs. he won't have the size advantage seeing how Pavlik is 6 foot 2 Pavlik is also the natural 160lb fighter. But the reward to me is worht the risk for Williams if he wins he plants his own flag. he is the UNDISPUTED MIDDLE WEIGHT CHAMPION and people will have to come to him for a fight.....Lefty

A prime Winky beat a prime Mosley two times, A Prime Winky Wright beat a prime Felix Trinidad and fought ot a draw with then Undisputed MW Champ Jermain Taylor. Throw in a couple of wins over Bronco McKart who at the time was considered very good at 154lbs a damn good fight with a prime Fernando Vargas. He defintely fought who was who in the early 2000's. Who has Williams fought? Winky after a 2 year lay off and at the age of 37? Who else Tony Margarito was his best and biggest win thus far. Winky was rated the #1 P4P fighter at one time fellas don;t forget that....Lefty

Either he's good enough to beat Pavlik or he's not. Ultimately we're going to find that out. He may as well find out sooner than later and take the 1.5 million. Also, the sooner he finds out the sooner he can start making bank off a signature victory. It's in his best interest to take the fight now. Most Feared man and everyone b*tching about Pavlik all the time may have gone to Goosen's head.

              cant disagree.

but one thing I will add..
RING mag. Already said if Williams returns to the WW division they will put up the RING ww championship if he fights the #1-3 fighter in the division.

and nobody at 154 really offers Williams a big reward opportunity because he would be favored over anybody in that divison.

So I agree the best risk vs. Reward fight for Williams is Pavlik and vice vesa for Pavlik.

You've got to be kidding if you think that was prime Trinidad that Winky Wright beat. That was Trinidad's second fight in almost three years. If you're going to count the lay off against Wright you have to do the same with Trinidad. Can't have it both ways. And Mosley was too small at 154 and never beat any true top fighters there. As for the draws, I don't count those as victories. I did think Taylor edged him because Wright blew that last round by not punching enough. I did think he deserved the decision over Vargas though. And the Pavlik fight needs to happen. No doubt Wright has fought better fighters but I consider his prime in his late 20's and early 30's..

I have a feeling Williams can no longer make Welterweight as easily as he once could. Atleast not and be as effective as he once was. I know he redeemed himself in his rematch with Quintanna but signs of his abilities slipping at that weight were evident IMO in his first bout with Quintanna. I know Quintanna fought an excellent fight and Williams was a bit off but he was a completely different fighter than the man who fought Winky. I think that's one of the big reasons he's not calling out the Welters as much anymore. In addition to the fact that they're not crazy about seeing him either.

What does this number represent? The fighters' purses? If it is, then Paul would make $1.5 million to Pavlik's $2.25 million? Does Pavlik deserve $750K more than Williams?

Pavlik is the lineal champ, is the draw, Williams claims no one wants to fight him and is really on the verge of breaking out with the right opponent. There is no better opponent for him than Pavlik. This is win win for Williams.
