I find it quite annoying how everyone on this site was a fan of Pavlik until he lost to Hopkins, and all of a sudden he is trash. That's whats killing boxing nowadays. Everyone will jump on the hype machine, than as soon as they lose, they hate him and have disgust for them. Everyone loses. Joe Louis was KO'd, but that didn't stop the people he influenced from being his fans, so why in this day age should a loss affect the way people look at him as a whole?
It wasn't until the Hopkins loss, it was the not fighting Abraham, when Abraham and his people were trying to make the fight and traveling to ask Arum what they needed to do to get it done and those incredibly ignorant comments about one of the best things to happen to boxing in years (the 168 lb. tournament).

Pavlik's people work for Pavlik, if a fighter insists on a fight, he will get it. No matter what his people say. Gatti's people didn't want him to fight Mayweather, but he wanted it so they had to give it to him.

Arum said it himself, that he can't tell fighters of that stature what to do, he can only suggest. If he really loved that fight and was Top Rank, than he wouldn't have signed an extension in June.

Pavlik does not control everything, and it's also not just the fight, the money in it to. High risk, low reward. Pavlik is NOT his own boss. The only thing I'd even say that Pavlik sounded remotely ignorant toward was the tournment, thats it. Pavlik has stated many many times that he'd like to fight Abraham. The problem is is the draw. If they were to fight here in the US, there would only be a draw toward Pavlik, not many people know who Abraham is. Vise versa if the fight were to take place in Europe. Americans, and the high end people on Pavliks side would not follow to their, like HBO and such. At the end of the day, it's about what makes money in this business. It's not like the good ol' days where it was for the love of the sport. You can't hate someone for an action they had no control over. I mean, talks of the Abraham fight weren't even around till Arthur beat Edison in the rematch, which wasn't that long ago in boxing time. You all talk as if this fight will never happen. By the end of the tournment, if Pavlik is still a big fighter, the match will happen, no doubt. In the mean time, quit bitching. Pavlik is the champion, there are so many fighters out there he could fight and would make much more sense to take weather it be a tune-up or what. Trust me, I'd love for Pavlik to fight Abraham, but I'm also not so sure how much Abraham deserves it over others. I mean, until now with the tournment and all, everyone he's faught were no names besides Miranda. So why complain that Pavliks not fighting a guy who indeed has skills, yes, but is not a draw at all? It's the same reason as why other fighters in this entire sport don't get title shots.... they haven't purely established a name for themselves.

We are talking about the present, not prime-vs-prime. And what does JT's face have to do with how well Winky will do? Winky is pretty feather-fisted, I don't see him bothering Pavlik at all, nor do I see any meaningful blows coming out of him. Plus he's been very inactive in recent years. Paul doesn't have that well of head movement, he used mostly his reach against him until he went to close, and he wasn't using foot movement, he was purely coming forward, no significant lateral movement. Just face it, Winky is much more washed up than Pavlik.
Winky would be putting pressure on him, he's done it to everybody he'sbeen in the ring with, it'll be no difference with Pavlik. The only reason he wasn't able to push Williams back was because Paul was giving him lateral movement when he wasn't punching something Pavlik doesn't do.

You said Winky threw ineffective punches, ineffective punches doesn't mess up somebodies face like that. When Winky lands a punch it scores with judges for the clarity. Rustiness has nothing to do with prime. Now that Winky has been back in the ring, he took the rust off and will be more adept to counter.

Winky isn't featherfisted either, he'll get your respect though. I didn't say he'd knockout Pavlik anyway. Choose to look at what you want, all I know is that it won't be as easy as Williams made it look or how you say it will be.

Winky pressuring Pavlik??? When Winky is against a pure pressure fighter, you can't expect him to out-pressure his opponent. I don't have any idea of how you can think Winky would be pressuring PAVLIK of all fighters. When's the last time Pavlik preffered to distance himself from his opponent, let alone fight backwards at all. You can't judge Winky's effectiveness on ONE fight. Did he ever hurt Paul? Did he ever hurt Hopkins? etc, etc. Winky is quite known for being featherfisted. The only time he ever gets a power hit is if someone walks into his punches, but even then, that isn't nearly as good as having raw power. I mean, Malignaggi stunned Hatton with a right hand when he was coming forward, but we all know it had little meaning. Winky is still rusty, one match every two years won't rub it off. Thats like taking a 2 year lay-off, going in the gym and spar once.... are you going to be as good as before??? Obviously not. When I mentioned Winkys power, I was trying to make a point that if he doesn't out land, he won't be able to rely on his power for anything. Sometimes a big punch guarantees a round, but you won't see Winky doing that, especially with his lack of work rate. And might I remind you that Winky is not the type of person who still goes to the gym in between fights, where as Pavlik does enough to stay in shape. And I never connect his rustyness with prime, so I have no idea where you got that from. Winky is a thinkers fighter... and the whole time he's thinking, he'll be getting hit. Classic line. You haven't given me much of a strategy for Winky either, all you have said is his effectiveness, which really isn't credible because never see much of that from Winky. We normally see him scoring against fighters who take breaks during rounds.

When the consensus #1 fights the consensus #2, it will get hyped regardless of who doesn't know them. How big of a draw was Margarito when he fought Cotto, same with Clottey? Margarito-Cotto sold 450k regardless, 100k more than the Mosley fight. Cotto-Clottey is the #1 highest rated boxing telecast this year. And I'm not even mentioning the German money that Pavlik would get.

**** if it happens down the road, it didn't happen when everything was on the line at 160. If you don't know why Abraham deserved more than the others, than there's really nothing else to talk about on this. Sturm just got a gift against Gevor, AA knocked him TFO.

The difference though is Pavlik is a straight to PPV fighter for HBO, and Cotto's fight with Clottey was looked at as a tune-up. Margarito - Cotto did so much because Mexican vs Rican fights are alwas big with their races. Fights with nation pride will always do more than just two fighters, it's just common. Nothing in boxing ever happens when you want it to. It's negotiations, you can't expect everyone to agree on the same **** and just blame one fighter because of it like you are obviously doing. ****, you could make an arguement that Abraham wouldn't settle for the negotiations they gave him. The thing about Abraham is that he very rarely fights outside of Europe, which many will automaticaly assume as cowardly which affects peoples opinions on why they deserve it. Abraham as a fighter and his skillset is worthy of championship, but as popularity and just a name itself, he's unworthy.

Pavlik always tries to wlak his opponent down. So does that mean Winky has no say? I'm not judging Winky's effectiveness off 1 fight that's the last thing I'd do. The only reason I mentioned... forget it man, you're reading the post in whichever context you want.

Winky will block Pavlik's volley of punches and when he stops punching, he'll stand in the same spot and be walked back because he walks in straight lines. Kelly will be put the position he's not use to of being walked back and getting hit cleanly with jabs and straight lefts.

The fight will be so close, it'll be debatable as to who won, but Winky will end up looking like the winner like the Taylor and Vargas fights.

Trinidad and Pavlik have roughly the same style, come forward and all power. Neither moved their heads much and look what Winky did to Trinidad, it was an embarrassment. Winky won't KO Pavlik but I certainly at this point in their careers have more faith in Winky and his ability to pick a part a pressure fighter. It also isn't like Winky did terrible against Williams he did win 4 rounds on my card, I think had Winky had some more pop on his punches he could have KO'd Williams with some of those clean shots. Which is where the problem lies for Winky, he is definitely older and you could see he was tired in that fight and if Pwill had more power could have KO'd Winky.

This is why I like Kelly fighting Winky. He'll have to learn how to deal with strong defense and how to get around it, especially if he wants to fight Abraham. I'm not calling it a tune-up fight, but its a style that Pavlik needs to learn to deal with if he wants to be an elite fighter and Winky with his age and lack of power is the perfect opponent to learn from. Its not a tune-up and should be an entertaining fight, its a big name for him to build his name on and other than getting outbox he won't have to worry about getting hit with extremely powerful punches either.
