floyd had higher numbers for ricky and oscar but some say it was the economy also there was factors that could explain why floyd did better.

    1. the oscar fight turned people off when it was announced because pac was at 135 and had to jump 2 divisions. people talk oscar would just kill the little guy. people expected pbf-oscar to be more competitive. pbf-oscar was also for a title while pac-oscar was not.

    2. ricky was undefeated for floyd. after his loss to floyd , he lost some of his luster. the fight with floyd was also at 147 while his fight with pac was at 140.

it's also hard to compare floyd's ppv besides oscar and ricky with pac's fights before oscar and ricky.

floyd's fights did a bit better than pac's ppv wise but pac's fights are the highest grossing ever under 147. under 147 fights don't get too many ppv buys.
100% RIGHT. Only thing I might argue is Hatton being on 24/7 with floyd and getting some extra us exposure may have helped the hatton-pac ppv.

his first ppv was gatti i think though i could be wrong.
What was odd about floyd was that they pushed him into the fire so early, but he never got that promotional push, he sat behind morales and de la hoya forever and only after kicking and screaming did he get that ppv with gatti which actually did decent numbers. Floyd never got the same push that manny got because his style isnt crowd pleasing, he doesnt have some ethnic group ready and willing to just show up and go crazy, hes american.

What also hurt floyd was the pathetic merry go round at 140 in which nobody fought anybody. The only legitimate fights at 140 have been hatton/tszyu and hatton/pac. Even the pac fight wasnt as signifigant since pac had no intention of solidifying his place in the division. At a time when tszyu, mayweather, cotto, harris and hatton all sat at the division at the same time, nobody wanted to fight mayweather but gatti (only because he was a mandatory) and hatton was content on defending his belt against maussa.

140 could have been the premier division in the sport instead its just as dead now as it was 5 years ago when everyone was there.

        good point.

unfortunately he didn't have the hatton 0.

that 0 actually convinced people he had a chance.

after floyd sparked him and then manny beat oscar......a lot of people thought ricky didn't have a chance (casual fans).

obviously the boxing guys knew ricky would have a chance.

tbh the elites at 140 except for the top guy is fighting each other.

everyone were fighting each other except hatton.

now everyone is still fighting each other (campbell-bradley is coming up) though the champ at that division (pac) probably ain't never fighting at 140 again.

Both guys bring stats, numbers and accomplishments to the table

50/50 would be fair if they fought, simple and plain

True. 24/7 helps Mayweather a lot too because he actually goes out and sells the fight by being outspoken and talking trash to generate a bot of interest. I really don't think Pac need a 4 episode 24/7, he just need a countdown that shows his highlight reel and gives some perspective on the fight. In Pac's case I think 24/7 reminds people to buy the fight. In Floyd case 24/7 helps sell the fight.

I know who's going down right now as the better fighter all time.

When it comes to drawpower in 2009 present day I don't think Floyd's a bigger draw than Pac. Compare common opponents all you like but Oscar/Floyd was billed as a very competetive fight with many experts split on who would win. You had fairly close odds in las vegas. The fight did great. On the flip side Pac/Oscar was suppose to be a 1 sided beatdown for Oscar. People were pissing on this fight & it still did 1.25 million. Now people are pissing on PBF/JMM and look at the early ticket sales - where a fight isn't looked at as being competetive will effect sales.

Now on to Hatton. Pacman did a bit less than Floyd, but in a recession. Take into account he's a non american who doesn't speak good english well and that's pretty ****ing good. It's not rocket science to see Pac's star has shined brightly in Mayweathers absensce.

Forward to present day, and even now there are more articles and hoopla for Pac's next fight than Mayweathers. I dont think 2007 has much bearing on 2009. **** changes. Pac took over, took over bigger & going forward will be bigger. Pac/Cotto should outsell pbc/jmm handily. Pac's created more buzz and taken over the sport in 6 years of becoming a name (after barrera 1). He did it the hard way, the way the fans appreciate.

Anytime you dont speak good english and your not a heavyweight or oscar de la hoya yet you have former presidents wanting pictures with you, or having the boston celtics run out after a thrilling game 7 in the 1 of the best series possible & try to rush through the postgame just to check your fight, how are you not a bloody draw???

Eric Gomez of GPB has already dubbed Pacman has the heir to Oscar's golden throne. GBP hates Pac. Enough said. Mayweather was great for controversy and yes controversy sells, but you know what sells better? A good ****in fight period.

That being said right now the fight should be 50/50. If both win their next fights and Pac outsells PBF which is likely, PBF can kiss 50/50 goodbye, and we as fans can kiss the fight goodbye.

                  1. To be fair Floyd hasn't fought in a long time
                  2. I'm not saying one's a bigger draw than the other but don't tell me Floyd isn't a draw

The Marquez fight isn't selling because people don't know who Marquez is...add in the fact the **** is on PPV for some ****** reason and Marquez is at a disadvantage

I wish that was the case. I went to the fight. Odds favored Floyd pretty heavily. I wanted to place a bet but it wasn't even worth it. Also I don't think the issue is just that Floyd did better numbers than Manny against Oscar. I think the problem is that Floyd did better numbers than anyone ever against Oscar or anyone else for that matter. Its hard to convince a guy that was a part of the biggest grossing fight in boxing history to take a 50/50 split. With that said I think he should take 50/50.
