dont matter now what he has done or not,hes at the end of his game.he needs to fight a arreola or boytsov, and if he can win witch i dont see that happening he would have one last shot at a belt. witch would be an easy win for the klitschkos.

His record is very deceiving, i posted 17 gimme wins he got in the middle of his career all the way until he moved up to cruiser/heavyweight. Toney was a great fighter but i am just pointing out how no one really talks about how padded his 71 wins are.
Do the same thing to Chavez' record if you dare.

His record has more padding than the walls of an insane asylum.

        mike muccluuam
        iran barkly
        roy jones
        montel griffin
        evander holyfeild
        john luiz

and out of all them one was out of prime (evander) and few aren't true elite fighter (griffn luiz and peter) but the rest was top class opponets
Somehow you forgot to add Chavez to that list.

80 fights and you don't expect atleast a few guys on there with names you maybe don't want on your resume anymore. Look Toney is a fighter that loves to fight. The **** boyz put on b level sparring sessions and still hardly ever fight and you want to go off on a guy that has 80 career fights and has never been KO'd? Toney went from nothin to somethin a few times, Toney came to my city in 1996 to box a local guy at a very small casino that i worked at and he was really at the bottom then and he rose up yet again. I met him in the buffet which i know will give the Toney haters a laugh lol, but he was a super nice guy and funny as hell. Signed and chatted with anyone that approached him. Point is he's a real lifer in boxing and his record is solid and he does have names on there that may make it appear to be padded, but it wasn;t he been up and down for years and some venues he fought at to get back in the big time didn't attract Roy Jones & Hopkins etc etc. he fought who he could and earned more big name fights he did it the right way.

            1996-07-03 Charles Oliver 16-5-1
The guy only lost to big names, he is local fighter but not a bad one by any means. Toney couldn't even KO him. He's by no means a bum or a punching bag, he just couldn't win on the highest level in the sport and if thats a crime why would anyone even risk there life fighting the guy took a shot at it and did aight.

As A Floyd Fan I Always hear This And Now You gettin' It "Coulda Shoulda Woulda" they won't fight him. He outright called them bums & ****'s and they won't fight him.

I think people generally agree that Toney wasted 10 years of his career in between the Roy Jones and Vassiliy Jirov fights.

He sure did. But I remember the fight before Jirov (at least I think it was the fight before Jirov), when he straight knocked some cat the **** out on ESPN, I believe. Beautiful shot and I remember thinking, this guy still has it!

That Jirov bout was simply amazing. To me, it solidifies that Toney was truly a great fighter. He never completely fulfilled his potential but is still a HOF'er and ATG IMO. It's kinda sad I don't see too many fighters today who have that old-school style. Then again, Toney was one of a kind in his own generation.

when you have 80 fights in this era you are gonna have some soft guys on there

the thing is, toney also fought a ton of world class guys too
and there was a period in the late 90's until like 2001 where he had slipped from the elite level and wasnt really getting offered any meaningful fights so he had to fight easy opponents

this is different to joe calzaghe, who only had 46 fights over 15 years, with just as many if not more bums on his record than toney has

the thing is, toney fought the world class guys, but he stayed busy and fought some **** guys too, much like the old timers did

and he was very active early on in his career

Sure his record is padded somewhat, but he fought great fighters too as other posters have mentioned. Besides how would he ever find 80 elite level fighters to compete against across only 2-3 weight classes anyway?
