Was Ali really the greatest?

1. Yes, Ali was the greatest... trashtalker. He invented rap.
2. I watched Chambers vs Sam Peter yesterday. Sam Peter (265 lbs!) was as fast as late Ali. Thus Ali was the Sam Peter of the 70ies, except that Ali was a powder puncher.
3. Ali is a featherfist, thus it's wrong that he had power. In his entire heavyweight career Ali scored 11 KOs within 12 rounds.
4. Ali's chin is a questionmark, since there were no hard hitters as nowadays and the hardest hitter (Foreman) was life threatened and probably drugged.
5. Ali was the king of a dire division. I would like to call it "Amongst blind featherfists the one-eyed featherfist is king" but unfortunately this title is already taken by half-blind Frazier (5'11.5'', heavyweight KOratio 50%)
6. His greatest achievement was to NOT rematch Foreman.
7. Except for a few cases his fights are usually a bore to watch: He clinches dirty ("Dirty Clay"), he insults and plays merry-go-round (= floating).
8. He has basically no defense (except merry-go-rounding and dirty clinching) and eats even slowest punches. Modern heavies would finish him within a few rounds.
9. His behaviour outside and inside the ring has often been disgusting.

Hmmm you got to remember that ali was 6 years older and 32, back in those days that was pretty old for a fighter. Also that ali was not the same fighter after he came back after a 3 and a half year lay off. But like you say, he won anyway.

I always love when fans play the age card (mainly if their fighter loses) but willingly add old opponents to the "list of achievements".

If Ali was old at 32 (= younger than Wlad now) then let's delete some fights off Ali's record who were also 32+ (since they, too, have been grandpas at 32):

On a serious note, I myself don't rate him the greatest boxer who ever lived but I entirely agree with George Foreman who said: "Ali was the greatest man to ever box". There is a difference.

Especially since that statement doesn't reveal whether Foreman thinks that Ali was actually a good boxer. Just a nice bro who happened to box.

Bundini Brown was NOT Ali's trainer. Angelo Dundee was Ali's trainer and Bundini Brown was a hanger-on and resident "court jester".

Brown was Ali's trainer (co-trainer) and speech writer ("Float like butterfly"). Brown was co-responsible for some of Ali's dirty acts outside of the ring.

That Ali hang around with this guy is telling, too.
